  • Immiticide treatment side effects?

Unfortunately we have a dog that is being treated for heartworms. He had one shot of Immiticide a month ago, and a back to back dose this past Wed and Thurs. Last night he developed a sudden outbreak of whelps on the front of his body and some red splotches on his inner thighs. I called our vet who said Benadryl. It worked, however he now has what looks like a couple of freckles where he has never had any freckles before. If you have ever had any experience with this form of treatment, did your dog develop any freckles or dark spots on the skin and did they go away at the conclusion of the treatment?

Any advice about what is coming or how to deal? We are in contact with our vet, but I just would love to hear from someone who has been through this as well.

    Thank you.

  • dogs on hydrochlorothiazide?

I have a 12 year old lab coonhound mix with congetstive heart failure, and i am a stickler for research. I was wondering if anyone here has had a dog on hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic), and if so, could you tell me how it went? Did it work for your dog for what it was prescribed? I was just wondering... thanks.

  • Once your dog Champions in the AKC, what's next?

My boy is one 3pt major away from being championed. I understand what specialling him is in that he goes in with the other champs after winner's are picked. my question is, is there truely a title to get after champion and how do you get it? does he have to get so many Best of Breeds or Groups or Shows to get 'Grand Champion' title or is there no such title, it is strictly prestige to special him and win breed and group and show?

    thanks

  • Learning for localvores?

Ok... so i am considering going local, and I am trying to find some networking for support. I have looked at several websites, but of course they are geared toward their specific locale. I understand that. What I was wondering if anyone knows of a national directory in the US that can get me in touch of any local groups. I am in the Hampton Roads section of Southeastern VA and very close to the NC border, so a group in Northeastern NC would be fine.

Any suggestions or advice about making this leap?

I am still doing my homework, and am not planning to make the switch till Spring.

  • Has any one else read this?

Have you read the book CULTURE CLASH by J. Donaldson? If you have what was your take on it? You think she is right on about dog behavior or way out there?

  • Does the SPCA realize they are making it too hard?

11 years ago, i went into my SPCA and adopted my Lab/coonhound mix. He has been a delite. They checked me out, made sure i had a yard, etc. I paid my twenty-five dollars, and took my pup and reduced rate neuter voucher (that had to be turned back in to the SPCA).

A few years later, I went in and adopted a sweet little black kitten. I was a gain checked out that i did not live in a 'no pet' apartment complex, paid my 15.00 , and took my kitty and reduced rate neuter voucher home.

About two months ago, we were talking about adopting an older cat. I went to the SPCA and looked for a week. We finally inquired about adoption rates (thinking they have probly gone up to about 50.00. Nope... 150.00 which includes the spay or neuter. Ok... that i can handle.

The kicker was that it was not cheaper for older cats that have been spayed or neutered.

We could not afford the cat and the food and the everything right off... not if the cat was 150.00. I hate we had to leave it there...

  • Help with heat...?

I have a ComPak-10 package unit... natural gas. I am having a problem with it cutting off after about 40seconds. I am sure it is the sensor, and i would like to clean it myself. I can not seem to locate it. I do not have the paper work on the unit, and I was told the sensor was by the pilot light. We have an ignitor, and i am not sure where is the sensor.

Could anybody help me? I can't really afford right now having someone come out, i have to try to do this myself. I just need help with the location of the sensor.

I would love to see a diagram or picture of a similar unit with directions on what to do.

    Thanks...

i can not seem to find the manufacturer online. I have typed in "compak" "compak heating" "compak 10" even the serial number, and i am coming up cold. I have found the model on ebay, but that was no help either.

  • Who on this forum has a RR?

I have found that while Rhodesian Ridgebacks are not extreemly rare, owners are few and far between. I think this harbors a certain comerodery with in our breed. I love asking people how did they find out about the breed and why did they go with it.

So, even if you don't have a Ridgey, what breed do you have and why did you go with that breed?

Feel free to add a picture!

    Check out my boy:

  • What should be done... where is the line?

I saw this video, and i read the posts on here against BYB and Puppy mills and such.

I also read posts by people who get upset when someone sugests and urges spaying and neutering.

Those of you who get upset with the "breeding police", what do you do when you see something like this video? Do you think it is none of our business as a society? Should we be concerned? Where is the line?

This is for all those who get up set with the "breeding police" on here. What do we do? Turn our backs or stand up for what we believe?

    Just watch this...

  • If Jesus was not crusified...?

If Jesus had come later and was beheaded via guillotine, would Christians have those hanging on the wall or over doors or on alters in churches? What if he was hanged? Would they be wearing nooses around their necks? If he was burned at the stake, would they pin matches to their lapels?

Why is the Christian faith usually, not always, symbolized by a death icon when it is the life after he rose that is to be the important part?

It's not that he died that gives humanity hope, it is that he rose from the dead and lived on. Why then are Christians fixated on his death and not his resurrection?

I know someone is going to tell me how it symbolizes his death for our sins... blah blah blah. Anyone can die. It takes more to rise from the dead. That is the miracle.

  • What do you think... is Cesar's way your way?

I was wondering what you think of this article. Especially those who have used Millan's methods. Have they stood the test of time?

I personally have not read his book and i don't watch tv. I do not judge if it is good or bad. I was wondering what experience others have had.

check out the article by a renoun trainer reviewing his book. What do you think:

  • Bullying won't solve anything, right?

So here's the situation: I have an 8 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback male and an 10.5 year old male lab/coonhound mix. the RR tends to try to bully the lab mix. He responds well to me getting between them, facing the RR and saying "LEAVE IT!!!!" He backs off and leaves the other dog alone for most of the day. This is the method i have used since he came home, and untill about a month ago, it worked well.

Then suddenly, we were going back to bullying and trying to run over the older dog, who has arthitis and hip dysplasia. I went back to the "Leave it!" method.

The RR is big, and so my husband will wrestle with him to the point the RR is frustrated and trying to move away, & will not let up till i say something. Then he is upset and claims he is showing the RR how it feels to be bullied.

I am looking for an article on dog behavior and training that will explain to him that he is only making the RR a bully, and the puppy can not fathom the "lesson" he is trying to convey.

  • Was Jesus the high priest of his coven?

Now that i have your attention and your Knickers are all twisted up, let me explain:

A traditonal coven is made up of 13 participants for the 13 moons of a year. This has been the tradition since the 1920's.

However, if God is all knowing and new this would be, why did he send his Son to hang out in a coven working magick? 12 desciples and a high priest working magick and holding gatherings... sounds like a coven to me.
