My ex-husband, he knew better because his mother wouldn't allow anyone to put a beer in her refrigerator, and it wasn't a nice thing to do with children around.

When I was growing up...I would have been hard-put to find one SOBER relative. Our family gatherings have been alcohol-free since 1978 when my grandfather died suddenly from complications of alcoholism. My mother has been a recovering alcoholic since 1989 and is doing very well with that, thank you.

That was my uncle, and I remember one Christmas night when I was about 7 or 8, he was so blasted he wet his pants.

Nope! Had one second cousin who got sloshed so much he mostly just stayed home & slept it off instead of coming to family gatherings. He was a very funny fellow when conscious. Sadly, he's gone from this world now. Hope there's plenty of booze wherever he is!

Used to. Not any more. It often used to be my husband. He doesn't drink anymore. He spoiled more than one holiday for me.

When I was small, it was my stepfather. He did like his beer, and so did my uncles on my mother's side. But they'd always, always get into it by the end of they night, and I doubt the next day they'd even remember why. The thing is, I don't remember my uncles causing trouble, but I do remember being embarrassed by my stepdad's behavior. I'm sure they ALL caused the trouble, but seeing as how I didn't like my stepdad much anyway, it colors my memory. And then mom and dad would fight all the way home, with us kids being scared in the back seat. There were a LOT of drunken rides home.
