suppose you want to find the centroid of sin x on [0,π/2]

you have to calculate the integral of

    x (sin x) dx on [0,π/2]

    over the integral of

    (sin x)dx on [0,π/2], which is 1

    ∫(x sin x)dx on [0,π/2], which still is 1

    so function centroid of sin x on [0,π/2] is x = 1
