How do you feel about Star Wars Episode VII?
I am wondering if you are ecstatic that they are finally making three more, or if you feel as I do.
I feel like George Lucas is bad-touching my child hood (even though I was not born for the first ones). Star Wars is ingrained into my mind, almost representative of my childhood. My father did not let me and my siblings watch any of the Star Wars movies until the 3rd one came out. Then, we rented out this small local movie theater and watched all of them in order (1-6) in one movie marathon, just us four. Throughout all this, I took the knowledge that there were only six movies as verbatim, and I loved the ending of Episode VI. Now, I feel as if Disney and Lucas are exploiting Star Wars to get more money. I realize that this is how the film industry works, where they squeeze things dry until their name is tarnished (see Indiana Jones). I also realize that Lucas had planned the final three episodes all along. Still, in my opinion, the first six were about as good as a movie series can get, and even if the next three are good, something will ruin Star Wars for me forever. There are even rumors of bringing Vader back. Why?!?!? It would shake my faith (in Star Wars)!!! I like the movies the way they are, and are content with them.
Examples of series that have been ruined:
Star Trek (Six original movies, made new one, most recent film sucked in comparison to others)
Indiana Jones (Three original, one new. I do not care what anyone says, the Crystal Skull sucked)
I will go ahead and throw the Hobbit in here as well, although it has potential to not be too crappy, because it is a prequel to the LOTR series.
TL;DR: Star Wars is good the way it is. Star Wars is an integral part of my childhood, and I feel it is being exploited in the same manner as Star Trek and Indiana Jones (both got bad-touched). What are your thoughts?
Edit: @Willz Yeah, I will see the Hobbit as well. I guess my point was that they are just recycling old films. I do not think we could ever call Hollywood *creative*, since it is in its nature to steal and reuse, but blatantly ruining movie franchises is a new low.
@John: I never said people who did not agree with me are idiots. In fact, I enjoyed the first three. However, I am not sure how the series could get *better*.

"Bad touching my childhood" ... I couldn't have said it better. There's plenty of story to be told, and I'd like to have someone tell it. However, Lucas is the creator and even he sucked at telling it (the prequels) ... I have absolutely zero confidence in Disney to tell it. Peter Jackson, I'd trust him to tell it. Not Disney, not even Lucas himself ... any more movies that get made are going to be no different than that CGI series they make for kids. Seriously upsetting.
I'm with you 100%.
@Justin: The problem is that there were books that were considered canon by Lucas Arts ... if they deviate from them, they're ruining the franchise. I guarantee this will all end in tears and the Star Wars franchise will end up being a kids story on par with the Little Mermaid only for boys. "Bad Touch" indeed.
@John: Only idiots? Let me guess, you never saw the originals in the theater? The prequels were awful. Clone wars was so/so ... the other 2 were an insult to my childhood.

Trollster, you and me think exactly the same way. Crystal Skull sucked a55. Good one liners, but that was it. The originals used mysteries of mankind, the last one was based on a known hoax, and that's just lazy. So bad! Killer giant ants? Are you kidding me? That was terrible! Even Peter Jackson who I am a huge fan of is going to ruin The Hobbit. The Hobbit isn't supposed to be dark and brooding like LOTR ... it's supposed to be fun and light hearted. He's going to turn it into something like LOTR and it's not supposed to be. Damn Hollywood!

This question was based in opinion, I just want it to be known, NONE of the thumbs down were from me. Even if I disagree, opinion is opinion and everyone is entitled to their's. No one should thumbs down each other for expressing what they think.

I agree with you and the others. I am currently skeptical about those films, and believe they are completely unnecessary. Entertainment corporations like Disney try to squeeze out as much of the franchise as possible just for a quick buck. I had no problem with the prequels (the 3rd was my personal favorite of the prequels), but none of them match up to the originals. Sometimes, it seems that movie corporations are either remaking old films or making sequels or prequels to them just to get rich. Why can't people be original like the old days? However, this does not mean that I will never see the movies. Depending on the reviews, I might see the new "Star Wars" movies, but it will take some convincing.
By the way, I am excited to see "The Hobbit". I think it is really weird how they took a 270-page book and split it up into three movies. Although, it is made by the same people who made "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, so I am confident that they will be good.

I somewhat agree, but I can see how lucas would have made the last 3. When skywalker was being trained to be a sith lord.. he was told he would learn how to bring people back to life or something along those lines.. and vader was an awesome, if not the best sith lord so it would make sense that he would find out how to do this and do it on himself. Atleast.. this might be how lucas would have played it out if its true about them making more to this trilogy.

cant wait to see what they do... based on a book and recast or actually do it 40 years later and use original cast and piss off a lot of people
And Crystal Skull wasnt crap, just people dont seem to understand its story line
God knows why
by the way only idiots dont like the reedits of Star Wars.. each new part added things that were part of the story but left out.
it all comes down to the story line they use.
hundred plus books out there and its not supposed to be based on any
BIG MISTAKE
