Teaching in Canada? (Requirements)?

I live here in the UK and i was wondering what requirements and a-levels/GCSEs you need to be a teacher in Canada here in the UK you need A-C in science maths and English and do a course and pass. But since In Canada they don't have GCSEs what do i need to do?

Each province has its own regulatory agency which manages licensing of teachers within the province. This is often known as a "[province name] College of Teachers" although the name may vary. Most have generally the same requirements:

    a) A Bachelor's in Education completed in a Canadian university. Provinces typically have lists of foreign universities which they accept as equivalent or processes which they go through to review that university degrees are equivalent. This may require taking specific courses in Canada such as Canadian history.

    b) A practicum. You teach in a public school under the supervisor of a licensed teacher for several weeks.

    c) A criminal background check.

However, if you are not a Canadian this is all rather acedemic. Non-Canadians may not work in Canada without a work permit or permanent residency. Other than rare cases (such as marrying a Canadian or being the spouse of someone in Canada with a diplomatic or work permit) in order to obtain a work permit you require a job offer from a Canadian company which has permission to hire foreign workers. This requires applying for a labour market opinion report which shows a shortage of Canadian workers in that profession. There is no shortage of teachers in Canada.

The unemployment rate for teachers in Canada is now 24%. It is one of the worst profession in the country for employment. Due to a low birth rate (1.63 or so), the school aged population in Canada has been declining for decades and provinces have been closing schools and laying off teachers in the tens of thousands. In addition, most jobs are unionized, meaning jobs are issued based on seniority. Few schools would ever hire a teacher on a work permit and even if you have permanent residency or actual citizenship, you would be strongly advised to retrain for another profession.
