Since most Democrats were against civil rights, including Al Gores father, it would not have passed without Republicans.

This is the history of the Democrat party regardless of which ideology they were following! Live with it!

I don't know anyone who does that. That might be because I live in New England, though. Also, during the civil war, the Democrats were proslavery and the Republicans were antislavery. Many of the southern Democrats are also socially conservative.

The titles of political parties are irrelevant. It is the political ideology behind the party titles that matter. The South has always had a conservative ideology. The current modern conservative party is the Republican party. In the past, it was the Southern Democrats.

Do not look at Democrat vs Republican. That is a flawed historical perspective of U.S. politics. You must look at Conservative vs Liberal.
