If your state has a deposit, you can get the deposit back. That's the most that you will be able to get. If there is no deposit then you may be able to sell the aluminum cans to a metal scrap dealer by the pound, it won't be much, literally pennies per pound. Remember that with the popularity of recycling, homeowners pay a monthly fee for the curbside recycling pick up. It's real hard to get money for your recyclables when suburban homeowners are paying people to pick up the recyclables from them.
No, try stepping on a plastic bottle that's capped compared to one that isn't capped. A capped bottle resists pressure until the burst point has been reached and the it collapses dramatically. Capped bottles damage the sorting machinery and throws debris around injuring workers in the recycling plant. They don't want any of the bottles to have caps on them.

It is usually .05 a bottle/can if they pay at all.. All you get back is your deposit, however it is great for the environment!
