Have a baby shower early or not at all?
I'm pregnant with what will be our first child. We just found out what we are having and I want everything purchased early so we are ready rather than waiting til last minute. I am a planner and I like having things done early so I don't have to stress about them. We talked to my mom and mil about it soon after we found out I was pregnant that we wanted an early baby shower or I would probably have already bought everything.
My mom offered to throw me a baby shower and she and mil were totally understanding of us wanting to have it early so we still had time to buy anything we needed after the shower and get everything organized/ready while I still felt good and had energy and without feeling rushed.... now my mom is looking to put off the baby shower until later in our pregnancy and it doesn't even look like she has begun planning nor set a date.
I'm really not trying to be ungrateful or anything, but we don't want to wait a long time to start buying so I'm thinking of telling her I don't want one if she insists on putting it off... I really want mine by 24-28 weeks at the latest so anything we need we can get from yard sales or store sales/clearance, rather than spending a LOT more on items because we waited to buy them and couldn't shop around...
Thoughts?
2 AnswersPregnancy6 years agoPay more for a move in ready house or buy a cheap fixer upper?
Assuming the houses are around 50k or more price difference what is your preference? I'm just curious because my husband would rather pay the extra for a move in ready where I would prefer to invest it in the house so we have a house we love and we chose the things on.. as compared to a move in ready one where we don't like or love something but the cost isn't justified in replacing it.
4 AnswersRenting & Real Estate8 years agoGetting out of Lease Early? Penalties?
I have looked over my lease and it doesn't say anything about a penalty for breaking your lease early. When I moved in I was assured they would work with me if I needed to break the lease early for any reason however that was a management couple. Now the owner has taken over and she is really a witch.
It took her over 2 months to cash my checks and when I called to confirm she had received them since the managers cashed them within a week of receiving them. Anyway she was really rude and was like well I haven't checked but if I don't get your check then I'LL CALL YOU! Super rude! Plus she charges an exorbitant late fee so its kinda crap that she wouldn't tell me if she hadn't got a check (I send them a week early). My neighbor, another of her tenants, has had sewage back up in the yard and she said she would get her husband to look at it. The guy took the day off to meet with them and then she texted last minute saying there is an emergency at another rental and he isn't showing up, the tenant told her they had taken the day off and were losing money her response "things happen". She isn't taking money off for their day off work!
Anyway I overlooked the problems I had with the unit because management was good... however now that she has taken over I would rather leave. She holds checks forever, she is rude, and I've had a problem since I moved in that still hasn't been fixed. She is just a nasty individual and now that I have to deal with her I'd rather look for a better rental.
Anyway the carpets old. The
4 AnswersRenting & Real Estate8 years agoNo Call No Show, should I quit?
Alright so I was a non intentional no call no show. I'm always worried about getting to work on time, and I'm NEVER late! I have missed work twice other than today since starting, both were sick days. One day I called continuously until I reached someone as I was the opener and couldn't make it, and the next day for like 2 hours before I had to go home sick but I went in anyway since it was a 4 am ad set shift and I knew they couldn't call anyone at that hour to cover me.
Anyway so like I said about being paranoid about time. Last night I worked til close, got home set a 3 am alarm clock. I was up about an hour after getting home and when I laid down for bed I rechecked the alarm clock... when I rechecked it I must have inadvertently turned it off because it never went off this morning. I know it sounds crazy but thats the truth.
Now I'm worried I could get fired for a no call no show. I mainly took this job for my resume because I didn't have retail experience and needed to get some! Now that this happened I'm thinking I should just quit so I don't run the risk of getting fired, because that looks good on no resume EVER.
What do ya'll think?
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment8 years agoHow did you and your spouse agree on your house?
I'm curious as to your house buying experiences when it comes to compromising with your spouse on the house ya'll chose to buy. It seems like my husband and I just have way different taste. On paper when I write out what we want in a house it seems to mesh but then when I show him the houses I really like he hates them. There was one we agreed on but it was already sold and I agreed out of practicality not because I loved the house. Honestly anymore even looking at houses depresses me because I have wanted to own my own house for so long but I don't want to buy a house and have a mortgage for 30 years on a house I don't even like or a meh house. I want to love my house and I feel like any house I love then he hates =/

5 AnswersFashion & Accessories8 years agoHusband won't stick to budget?
Alright, so my husband is in the military and he is currently at tech school. We have both talked about it and we want to buy a house when he comes home. We also plan on taking our honeymoon that we never got to take due to the military scheduling.
I am going to college full time and working part time to bring in some extra money for savings and for his gifts. I'm spending around $1,000 on him this year since I know he is going through alot with basic and tech school....
I'm doing without a lot of things and I'm cutting expenses and being frugal so we can have more security. We discussed the budget and I asked him about it to make sure he agreed, and that our goals were the same. He agreed and now he is over $100 over budget, I warned him when he was $50 under the budget this week about his spending and how close he was to being over budget this early in the month.
He has $200 a month. Military provides his dorm and food. The only thing he has to pay for is laundry and hygiene supplies so like $30 a month. He gets $170 for entertainment, junk food, extras!
I give myself $50 a month for extras and sometimes those extras are groceries since I give myself only $120 a month for all groceries, cleaning supplies, hygiene supplies, vitamins, etc! I don't have a clothing budget so if I need anything thats also out of the $50.
I need some advice! Right now I'm getting really frustrated and beginning to resent him, I'm sacrificing for our future and he is spending much more than he needs!! I just bought him a gaming laptop for tech school, so he also has a more expensive new laptop for entertainment!
4 AnswersPersonal Finance8 years agoHow many hours to work while being a full time college student?
When I started college I quit working to focus on my studies. I didn't work throughout my freshman year, then I took 4 classes a semester since the adviser suggested not more than that saying it was full time. Now I found out to graduate on time I needed to take 5 classes a semester. I'm currently taking a summer course and working around 25-30 hours a week usually. I'm wondering how many hours I should work while going to school full time!
I don't want my grades to suffer but I would like to keep my job for at least 6 months so it looks better on my resume, however I do need to find a good work school compromise that gives me time to spend with my dogs, clean my house, cook, work out, etc. I do still want to have a life etc.
6 AnswersHigher Education (University +)8 years agoFamily always bugging me for something?
Alright so growing up I rarely saw my family due to a controlling father. They were in and out of my life and with my whole family if I don't live by them they pretty much never call, email, visit, nothing not even for my birthday. Now that I live closer they came to a birthday party thrown by my mom for me but it seems like they always want something for me!
I am a homebody. I like being at home ALONE! I walk around my house half naked and relax during my time off rather than going out with friends partying. Apparantly since I'm not "doing anything" I'm supposed to do whatever they want. Whether its babysitting, attending events, driving people somewhere, going where they want me to etc.
Prime example is my husband is airforce and I was at his graduation. My aunt had the nerve to call while I was spending time with him after not seeing him for 8 weeks for a favor. Not only that as soon as I answer I tell her I'm with him to say I'm not talking right now and she continues talking. I haven't seen my husband in 8 weeks, whatever your issue is its not the appropriate time. The "issue" was taking her daughter to the hospital for my grandmas back surgery... umm what? Is that a social event?
Since my grandmas back surgery I text her everyday to see how she is doing and see if she needs anything. However I don't have to do this!
Honestly I just really find my family annoying. If they planned things in advance or came over invited it would be different, but instead they try to boss me around or show up last minute then bang on my door, GO AWAY! I know it might seem bad but this is how I feel. I don't ask my family for things often or at all. My husband and I pay our own bills and live in a house we rent. We don't owe them anything and it just bugs me!
Anyone have advice or other family stories? Oh I also feel the need to add that I eloped because of my family, I couldn't have the wedding I wanted without hearing it and guilt trips from them so I opted not to have one at all!

2 AnswersDesktops8 years agoHow many children do you want and why?
Please answer the why part. I've looked at other questions on here but usually the why isn't answered and if it is it isn't thought out.
Also if you want 8 but only plan on having 3 then please explain why your choosing the 3...
My husband and I have discussed it and we are between 1-3 so I was just thinking about it. I'm a planner and I'd really like other peoples opinions. I have never been around a family with just 2 so I guess I have no experience with that.
7 AnswersParenting8 years agoWhy are you against adoption?
I have seen many questions where people are considering putting their child up for adoption and want opinions and any opinion that suggests adoption gets numerous thumbs down, even though they were respectful honest opinions.
I am young and me and my husband have suffered from two miscarriages. I have wanted to have my own family since I was a little girl and it breaks my heart that I might not be able to, and it angers me that society is so against adoption. People are pretty much pressuring moms and dads into keeping children they don't want or can't provide for! I just want to understand why.
Why do you all think that they will make better parents then me? I was pregnant for 8 weeks and I started prenatal exercises changed my diet right away and read everything that I could get my hands on about child development, infants, breast milk vs formula, cloth vs disposable diapers, circumcision, harmful chemicals in household products, BPA, everything!
I'm not trying to rant I just want to understand your viewpoints and why some of you give thumbs down to anyone who suggests adoption, and therefore pressuring keeping the baby.
Thank you all for your answers!
17 AnswersAdoption8 years agoAm I wrong? Moms birthday...?
Alright so my mom didn't have a great marriage and isn't real close to her family and feels left out alot etc. She says she has never had a good "name any holiday" and her birthday is coming up. Well her best friend started a cake business and never received training. Since its my moms best friend we bought our wedding cake from her, and lets just say she butchered it. We still payed full price was nice and all etc. I even asked her after my cake if she thought by January she would be able to make a coke cake for my mom... obviously I'm throwing her a party if I'm buying a cake?
She has been bugging me since before Christmas for details about my moms party, which I didn't have planned given the guests intended wouldn't have their work schedules for me to make reservations. My mom changed her mind about what she wanted for the cake and wanted a coca cola/beach theme, hard to pull off without looking tacky but I spent a most of the day figuring out how and came up with some really great concepts. Her best friend doesn't want to/can't make the cake I sent her and is giving me cakes I don't like at all... she also has been inviting guests without talking to me, and I heard about it because she was talking to an aunt about how she was planning the party.... She is planning and I'm paying!?
I'm pissed and told her that we could do seperate parties. Her vision is so different from mine and as my moms best friend you would think she would donate the cake, but I'm paying for it and she wants to do whatever design she wants.... When I suggested seperate parties my sister called me selfish and she backed out altogether saying she doesn't have the time or money to plan a party!
I mean am I wrong to expect that if I'm supposedly planning and paying for the party that I am the only one inviting guests, choosing the cake, decor, etc. My sister said I should just let her do the cake, but she won't do what I want and I'm paying for it, then my sister offered to pay for it but if the cake doesn't match the decorations then its tacky, plus the cake ideas she showed me I hated and I don't feel like they would be my moms 1st choice...
2 AnswersFamily8 years agoVegetarian "meatless" recipes?
I want to start eating less meat. I'm not switching over to being all the way vegetarian but Ideally I would like to switch to eating meat only about three times a week. I want to start off small with "meatless mondays". Can anyone suggest some good recipes?
P.S. to anyone who will post rude comments I'm lowering my meat consumption because over consumption causes health problems such as heart attacks, and primarily because most animals used for meat are treated inhumanly. I want to switch to a local source of meat where I can see how the animals are treated!
6 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan8 years agoFrustrated, Fiance doesn't help with the house! Help!?
Alright this isn't so much a question, however I do need advice. I'm really getting upset over this.
My fiance and I have lived together for 6 months and during that time we both worked and paid the bills yet I was stuck with most of the housework! It didn't bother me so much at first but it gets old having to pretty much do EVERYTHING, or it not getting done.
While this weekend my mom asked me to come over to help her with something, but before I left I cleaned the house, it wasn't immaculate but it was pretty clean. When I got back it was a mess, and he claimed he hadn't done anything and it was like that when I left. Then I discover one of my favorite and expensive blankets that I got as a present he ruined... his puppy peed on it then he washed it with a pen!
It just infuriates me! Even when he does do something to help out like laundry he doesn't finish it! He doesn't fold it he just throws it in a basket like that helps then its wrinkled and I don't even know if its clean or not cause he just leaves it for days. Its just a waste of the soap I BUY! I'm just really mad because I have to do everything and he just gives me more work!
I could go on and on but I think everyone gets the picture so I will restrain. I really resent him and now that I'm starting college and he will be supporting us I think its even a bigger problem cause I feel like maybe I owe him but thats not a marriage and we are supposed to be getting married and a team, I shouldn't have to do everything!
8 AnswersMarriage & Divorce9 years agowhat is the best reserve branch?
My boyfriend wants a career in criminal justice but since he is not 21 he cannot start his career for two more years. I am waiting a year to start college for in state tuition and he just says he doesn't have money but wants to go. I thought that joining reserves would be a good option for him considering he wanted to join the army before anyway but I am wondering which branch offers the most incentives with a military police job perferrably.
