My mother doesn't allow me to wear nail polish?

I think she is being a total control freak and for all the wrong reasons. I am 16 for God's sake and she freaked out (like literally flipped) when she smelt the nail polish in my room yesterday. Then she confiscated all my nail polish along with make-up (she also disapproves of that) and called me a slut. She proceeded to check the colour I was wearing and said I was not allowed to put on any more nail polish and if she spots me with another colour she will smash (yes, smash) all my nail polish bottles.

I do NOT understand the big deal with wearing nail polish and I told her that everyone else is wearing it and it does not, like, cause brain damage or instant rebelliousness. She said everyone else also scores good grades while I apparently do not (hmm, says who?) plus, it's her house and she gets to set the rules.

Oh yeah and she also suggested taking me to see a shrink because I obviously had serious issues for always wanting to paint my nails.

I am not even joking, I think she is a nut job.

Update:

@koutlaw I had a job, she controlled my income. And she told me to quit because I was wasting time flipping burgers, then she grilled me for not working. WTF!

Update 2:

@Zelda haha I am on holiday now, and nail polish is not allowed at my school. :(

Update 3:

@ALN09 Do you live with her? No, I do and I know what she is like. Every time I try to talk, it ends up with me being the bad guy so yeah, I'm just the world's biggest ***** who likes to dress slutty and hates studying. How will wearing nail polish attract guys? A classy French manicure is, well, classy, and it's not like I go around with hooker red nails, fishnet stockings and stripper heels.

Well evidently your mom is not going with you to the live shows, so go to your car, and power your self to the closest Wal-Mart or goal that is close or attached to a mall. Don't go into Claire's or Ardene given that these outlets are for girls and ladies only. Buy your self some nail polish, and even as you are within the mall, go get your ear(s) pierced. Then on the best way house, go get a new haircut that covers your ears. Since you are a rocker, it's not relevant how messy the haircut is, so simply get a messy fashionable one that is not lots one-of-a-kind than yours (so your mom will not detect), and be certain you cover the nail polish whilst you get residence. Whenever you paint your nails and go to the concert events, be certain to carry some nail polish remover and do away with your nail polish within the rest room. Then, go house and your mom shouldn't notice a factor....Until you enable her to peer your nail polish. Be definite to cover it and ensure she does not go into your room, due to the fact she's going to end up finding it until you lock it up in a box or something. Also, your mom doesn't want you to end up looking like a jerk. But you will not. She just does not appreciate why a man would need that. That's why she stated it can be just for girls, which it isn't. If those should not the explanations she will not can help you, then ask her when she's in a just right temper. I am hoping that helped.......

Yeah she is really an immature parent, doesn't even know how to raise kids and explain them proper reason to behave in a certain way but then why is she raising you. She does not want the Guys with itchy di*** to come attracted to you, so that you can blame her again that she failed to be a responsible mother. She may be protective or overprotective depending on her own experiences. Be calm and ask her is it her fear that makes her stop you wearing Nail polish and fashion accessories. I don't think she would force you or anything other than giving suggestions once you've got yourself a decent job and payment and can support yourself in her permanent absence. You got your whole life to take your decision and be responsible for it's consequences. Let her decide for now.

  • Maybe your mother doesn't want you to get in trouble at school for wearing it? You seem responsible, though, so I don't see why it would be a problem. My dad doesn't like me wearing nail polish, but only because the smell really irritates him, so I have to paint my nails outside if I happen to. What I find is that the nail art pens don't smell like regular nail polish though so I'm allowed to use those indoors. Same thing with perfumes and lotions, I have to put those on outside too because my dad hates the smells. Oh, and hairspray. He has a fit if I spray hair spray in the house, so if I want to spray my hair, say, before school, I have to walk outside on my back porch at 6:30 - 7 AM and spray my hair in the freezing cold. Yay me. :')

Wow... Poor thing. I'm not allowed to wear nail polish because , when I pray the water must touch my finger tips, I can only wear it for special occasions. Ask your friend if you can use her nail polish at school and take it off at the end of the day

Wow that is quite something....when I painted my nails my mother didn't really care. Did you try asking her why you couldn't paint your nails or use makeup? Maybe she's just....mental...no offense. She may have been drunk(?)
