Why is it people think Novus Ordo Seclorum means "New World Order," when it really means...?
Time and time again we see people talking about the "New World Order" claiming that the back of the us Dollar bill actually says it. In fact, one preacher on the TBN network (End Times show if I remember correctly) has come out and said "Novus Ordo Seclorum" means new world order.
However, with the true Latin translation being "New Order (of the) Ages," and Seclorum being the possessive version of Saeculum or century; why does this myth hold so much attention? Even right and left wingers stand by the wrong translation, yet it doesn't seem to make sense. Is it a case of ignorance, or just blind belief in whatever their leaders say?
Note: The Latin word for "World" (or worldly) which the word secular is taken from, is secularius. Further, to mean "new world order" the phrasing on the dollar would need to be Novus Secularius Ordo...

Many things in the bible and throughout our history pages refer to the term "ages" or "age." Ancient and modern scholars alike define an age in conjunction with the precession of the equinoxes and their corresponding constellations. For example, we are currently in the age of Pisces and the coming of the new "age" will be the dawning of the "age" of Aquarius. "New order of the ages" isn't that far off from "new world order" in the sense that nothing, neither natural nor man-made can or will last forever. Especially a "new world order regime." It is a poor translation on their part but at least folks like us (Latin students I mean) understand what it really means.

In translation you have to take the closest sense, rather than the literal translation. It's a matter of translating meaning, not words, so the one they use may actually be a better translation. I have no way of knowing as latin is a dead language.
But it takes so much research and life experience to get at the truth, with all the garbage out there on every subject that people tend to take what sounds best to them and can be wrong, even if they have done a lot of study. Also because we tend to be biased.

I read it as new order. never thought about it, but didn't know what seclorum means.
It still means new order anyways.
I am not to concern it's there. Those who are concern might be practicing reverse logic.

I don't know. But I do know a new world order is possible. All you have to do is control the nations wealth. If you can do that, it doesn't matter who makes the laws.

Labels are for cans. Many things say they are the Best on their label. It doesn't make it so. German troops in the first world war went into battle with "Gott Mitt Uns" or God is with us, on their belt buckles. Was he?
