Do any atheists think astrology has merit?

Atheism strictly means the lack of belief (or disbelief) in any god. However, many atheists reject many other supernatural claims under the same principle of skepticism with which they reject gods (not all atheists are skeptical though). Those would include astrology. Personally as an atheist I don't believe in astrology, I think it's ridiculous. I don't identify myself with a star-sign either. However, I have known atheists who believe in ghosts and such, it varies.

It still baffles me that non atheists think that all, or even most atheists think the same way about any given thing. The very idea is ridiculous. Just like any other topic, atheists either believe or do not believe in astrology on an individual basis. It's like asking "do atheists like chocolate ice cream?", some do , some don't.

I am an atheist and I don't happen to believe that astrology has merit. My good friend is a religious person who believes that astrology does have merit. Lack of belief in God does not correlate with a belief in astrology. To identify with a star sign can be fun and amusing, but is not to be taken seriously.

As said above - atheist just do not believe in any god.

As for astrology, I was semi pro for a bit until I found out:

1/ my clients were using it to stop their personal development and not to help

2/ that it is BS in the same way all religion is

Later, when I studied psychology, I discovered that most of what astrologers claimed to have come from the stars, in fact was either genetic or learned.

And exactly how many atheists do you know who actually say it's fake, and proudly identify their zodiac sign?

Zodiac signs are also a part of pop culture, and are actual constellations. Mine is Libra, but I'm not a proud Libra or anything. It's just fun, and since the paper has horoscopes, it's not like I have to put forth effort to figure out my zodiac sign, although I believe they're actually different from some shift or whatnot.

As for my future and whatnot? Yeah, that stuff is fake.

Astrology is a pet hate of mine.

Since I was a kid I was astronomy and space exploration mad. (I was also Christian back then too)

Astrology even then, looked strange and illogical to me. How could immense balls of pressurised nucleosynthesising hydrogen lying trillions of miles away possibly make you meet the love of your life? How could the elliptical course of a gas giant like Jupiter make you lucky today? It's lunacy.

Of course, a comet sighted on a direct collision course with earth could indicate that lots of people are about to get very very unlucky! That might be one last horoscope worth reading heheheh.

I don't deal with star signs, dismiss anything suggesting there's even a shred of merit in it. Just lots of Horoscope writers who extract pennies from the gullible.

I know my sign, and that's about it. I think astrology is just a form of mild entertainment for most people, kinda like fortune cookies.

atheism is the lack of belief in claimed gods, and nothing else. If some atheists "believe" in astrology, that doesn't contradict their being atheists. It's silly, but that's another thing.

I have little doubt there are some, but I know I find it nothing more than entertainment in the newspaper.

There are tens or hundreds of millions of atheists in the world, so it's statistically probable that some of them do.

The date of my birth has nothing to do with who I am, nor do the stars that were around.
