Opinions on the old and New 2013 Sprint Cup Cars?
So im sure many of you have already seen the 2013 Sprint Cup cars/the new layout of them. My question is what do you think of them? - Chevy,Ford and Toyota.
Perosnally. I don't like what Nascar did to them. I know Nascar's goal was to have more brand identity and cars more relatable to what the fans drive. Along with being more appealing to the fans eye. But I don't see what was wrong with the former - 2011-12 cars they had? The only issue was the amount of ratings from fans, but I honeslty don't expect that to change just because the look of the cars changed. From what ive read and my own guess, fans are leaving nascar- because of the media making up stories and blowing things out of proportion, rule changes and the lack of wrecks/cautions. (yes ive read on a nascar.com poll more fans wanted to see wrecks than racing). ..But a more relevant point is the cost for these new car bodies. Example- James Finch said if he cant find a sponsor then he will close shop because he cant afford to run the new cars and all the sheetmetal from 11-12 cars is now scrap. Think of how many other of the smaller teams are going to be affected by this. Nascar said they wanted to encourage new teams to join into the sport, well teams like FAS Lane,Tommy Baldwin,Inception etc all get their cup car bodies from higher up teams at discounted prices since the cars are used.
Thats just my opinion, I think the new cars aren't going to do anything with the ratings, and it will hurt the teams more than help them, NASCAR had a car body that worked for the teams and the fans were somewhat or at least mostly satisfied with , why ruin it?

Ratings are up; attendance just happens to be down when compared to prior years ago. I agree though: the cosmetic changes aren't going to pack the stands at every track.
Like the NFL, NASCAR has awesome ratings, but mediocre fan turnouts throughout a lot of events in the season. Back in the day, the best seats that one could possibly have were at the arena or track; it is a TOTALLY different story now. We now have huge high definition televisions, tons of camera angles, live radio transmissions from the internet, etc. The best seat is sitting on your couch for any sporting event nowadays. Not just NASCAR, but all sports have taken this hit.
I really don't think NASCAR feels that this change is going to fill the stands anyways though. The fans have wanted this for a long time and NASCAR has listened; that is something that I can respect.
Cosmetically, these cars look great, but like you, I saw nothing wrong with the previous cars.

Yes, they were down from last year in the tested markets; I meant they were up compared to many other sports in the USA.

I don't know how you didn't see that tons of fans hated the COT. They hated how much they looked alike and how they lacked brand identity, and this is a HUGE step up. But yes, there are obviously numerous other reasons that ratings and attendance are down (and Josh, ratings just went down this season, not up like they were last season.) Attendance though, at quite a lot of the tracks, did not look too bad in my opinion, just not as good as they were in the past. But according to sources, attendance has continued to go down. I am starting to believe the reason for the bad attendance at Talladega in October was because the fans around there didn't like the tandem racing that had been happening, and they weren't coming to the race to watch that type of racing, but the big pack was back in that race, so hopefully more people will come to fill the seats. Other reasons for declines that these cars most likely will not fix is: Dodge leaving, a bunch of Dode fans will leave, though there will be a Ram in trucks next season, maybe a Challenger in Nationwide, but Dodge basically leaving won't help. Toyota was a reason many fans stopped watching and/ or going to races, but that won't be addressed of course, I personally kind of like their 2013 car. Also, the original COT turned people away, while this is based on the COT, it is far different in looks, thankfully. Some people are annoyed by the announcers on TV, the racing has been less competitive this season, forcing people away from attending races and watching the whole thing on TV, and the Chase is something fans really did not like, and I don't like it only because it turned fans away, the Chase was the reason for attendance slowly declining since 2004, the debut of the Chase. Finally, a very big reason must be Jimmie Johnson's success, people are plain tired of seeing him win all the time, and after winning 4 in a row, attendance and ratings took a deep dive, and then he would win again in that bad year for NASCAR. Then, in 2011, ratings actually went UP! Reason being, Johnson wasn't a big contender to win the championship, and it was Stewart and Edwards, much more appealing to viewers and they wanna watch it because it does not involve Johnson winning it by a lot, it was a a good race for the Cup with two guys other than Jimmie, and people wanted to tune in for that. This year, Jimmie is back in contention, and what do you know, ratings right back down. People hated seeing Johnson with a chance to win, so they didn't view the race.
About your title question, I am quite fond of the new cars. The Ford looks best in my opinion, and it will be a fan favorite. I like that it has real grill bars instead of a decal for it. The Toyota looks pretty good too. The Chevy was a slight disappointment me, it looks too much like an Impala, and isn't as detailed in the front as the other two cars, but it still does look pretty good. I reaallly wish the Dodge was in NASCAR next season, that Charger showed the most brand identity and it was very cool looking, the best one of all, and even non- Dodge fans would have like to see it running. Too bad Dodge did not go with RPM and Furniture Row, they could have had success with Almirola getting better lately, and they would have had Kurt Busch driving for them. Ambrose would be good at road courses for Dodge too. And they all would have been beautiful cars.
