Adhesive for stone fireplace?

I bought some nice stone tiles at Lowe's for my electric fireplace.

I was wondering what adhesive I should put behind it. Should I also use a backerboard ?

The stone tiles are quite heavy.

I am considering to just have the tiles run from the bottom to the top, (not the whole wall, just a little more than the length of the fireplace I have).

Here is the product.

Use a cement board and a good thin set. Thin set needs to a latex or a latex modified thin set. GL

Yes, the backerboard will help isolate/uncouple the tile from sub-floor movement that will take place. Some experienced professionals still tile directly to plywood using special installation techniques but I don't recommend this method. Since you need to use backerboard, the best thing to do would be to get them from lowes and look for lowes coupons printable online. It can save you a lot of money if you just take 5 minutes to search.
