Is this common assault?

Last night I met my friend and we went round her friends who is a guy that I had met for the first time. He is an alcoholic. He was rude & aggresive to me when he first saw me. He started being nice to me and then switching on me. He then began calling me a fat slag and saying I was ugly. I ignored this as I did not want to aggrivate him as he was very drunk. He threw his dog across the room chucked my coat. He then at 4am picked me up off the ground screamed get the **** out and dragged me byvthe arm & slapped me across the face slightly. He also said he was gonna wrap me up in the rug. I got out te house & called the police! Is this a crime? I am slightly unsure of whether to press charges as I am not sure if he commited an offence. What would happen if I pressed charges?

Assault is aggressive, in your face behavior. Like trying to start a fight with someone. He did that. Battery is touching, grabbing, or pushing you. He did that too.

You were a guest in his house, so you didn't trespass. If he said "don't come in my house." and you did that's trespassing. You were a guest of a friend and when he wanted you to go, you did.

Just because you were at his house , doesn't mean he can push you around.

Sounds like your friend has a drunken jerk for a friend.

Certainly enough there for a charge of common assault. The key factor would be what evidence your friend is willing to give to the police. With a third person present, it is going to be two to one - and you need the two backing your account.

Damn right it's a crime! What's wrong with this guy? He can tell you to leave his house but he can't slap you and pull you around without reason
