Description: This addresses an issue where customers may not be able to install Yahoo! Messenger due to a 'Installation Unsuccessful' error.
Current Status: We are actively investigating this issue and working to provide a resolution as quickly as possible.

Martin - Have you tried restarting your computer and making sure there are no other open programs? Also, temporarily disable any anti virus or malware programs and try installing Messenger again using the standalone installer. Let us know how that works out.
*UPDATE* Our engineers have resolved this issue and you should be able to download and install Yahoo! Messenger successfully from Messenger.yahoo.com

This is not an answer so much as an additional comment. I did a clean recovery of my computer using the Gateway recover system. Sense then It does not matter what I have tried, I can not get Yahoo Messenger to install. the first time that I tried it put an empty yahoo on my programs page. I deleted it, instead of running uninstall. And now I can't install messenger.

The standalone installer worked wonderfully! Walked me through trying things I'd never thought of trying. Hurrah!

Nope, the standalone installer still doesn't work. Why? Because my hard drive has 2.7 TB free and apparently that exceeds whatever Yahoo Messenger's code was expecting. Way to plan ahead, guys!

I had got a brand new Acer Aspire 47527G laptop, and I was unable to upgrade the version 10 of Yahoo! Messenger preinstalled.
After uninstalling that - no sucess on the version 11 still!
Until I got my hand on this file :)

and it worked for me 1st try :) THANK YOU because its been 2 weeks I have been trying to install messenger off yahoo site with no success, unfortunetly even took my laptop to shop they thought i had a virus and had it set back to factory setting still messenger was giving me that Unsuccessful Installation. if only i had seen this first. grrrr but THANK YOU for this HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY i am now. love my messenger cant live with out it.

The stand alone installer worked for me, windows 7, IE9. The other just kept giving me the "installation Unsuccessful" message, I did restart my pc before attempting the Stand alone installer

Have tried the 2nd file. It downloads apparently ok, then when you try to run/open it a message asks if you want to allow the program to make change to hard drive. Say yes...then nothing happens. Program is ymsgr1150_0228_us.exe.

I am getting the same problem. Second link for install I get told that I don't have any room on my hard drive, even though I have over 2.7 TB's free.
