Does this scare you atheists?

I'm an atheist to, i had to say that because the title could be misleading. Anyway. I see a lot of Christians freaking out saying if your an atheist how do you have any morals!? Why are you not killing everyone!? Why are you not stealing!? If you don't have fear of god why do you not do evil things!? When Christians say that it terrifies me. The reason why is if tomorrow we disprove god does that mean all the Christians are going to go on a rampage and murder people?? Wouldn't that make Atheists better people than Christians?? We have morals because it is right but they have morals because they are scared of God.

Fellow atheists, doe this frighten you at all?

    Just the fact that the Christians are all semi educated at best scares me, the things they say are on their minds 24/7 and yes it does scare me that if we prove a god really does not exist then there will be a lot more murders on this planet, but it is the right thing to do!!! Besides most of those that say they are believers just say so because they are scared of being ostracized by the real believers that are the trouble makers!!! So i believe the atheists are safe because they will be fighting amongst themselves mostly!!!

    Morality =/= religion.

    -If one argues, as some deeply religious individuals do, that without God there can be no ultimate right and wrong - namely that God determines for us what is right and wrong - one can then ask the question: What is God decreed that rape and murder were morally acceptable ? Would that make them so ?

    While some might answer yes, I think most believers would say no, God would not make such a decree. But why not ? Presumably because God would have some *reason* for not making such a decree. Again, presumably this is because *reason* suggests that rape and murder are not morally acceptable. But if God would have to appeal to *reason*, then why not eliminate the middleman entirely ?- Lawrence Krauss, A Universe From Nothing, Pgs 171-172.

    No, does not scare me at all. The so-called "christians" on R&S are a very vocal pseudo-christian right wingnut fundamentalist group. The REAL Christians do not have that problem, they are moral for the sake of morality, they may follow the religion in many ways but they do not need a book to tell right from wrong.

    @ Scuzzy Wuzzy, It's not "colosal", it's "colossal". And if you want to talk about proofreading, you wrote "ou" where you meant "you". Minor, but a failure to proofread nonetheless. While I tend to ignore the grammar and spelling in a lot of stuff on here, if you are gonna be the "grammar Nazi" then you need to get your own house in order first.

    btw, I used to make a living as a professional proofreader.

    Blessings on your Journey!

    The idea that there are apparently so many people out there with so little moral foundation that without external instruction from a completely unprovable magical being, they'd become mass murderers? That is kind of frightening, actually. I guess some people never develop the capacity for moral reasoning beyond that of toddlers; it's just chilling to realize there are so many of them.

    Studies have repeatedly shown that humans have an innate moral sense and we need it to form the kinds of communities in which we survive and thrive. Religions have hijacked this sense as proof of their god for all of human history. If everyone suddenly woke up tomorrow and didn't believe in any gods, almost everyone would continue on as normal. I'm sure there would be outliers (and there always are) who are psychopaths who were able to suppress some of their traits based on religious ideas, but I doubt it would be any more dangerous than the average person's chances of dying on their way to work tomorrow and such people with poor impulse control would be identified fairly quickly.

    As you have already realized, it is not necessary to be religious to live a moral and ethical life.

    The Christians know that; they just don't like to admit it. Moreover, if the existence of God were to be disproved, they would recognize what we already do: that since this is the only life we have, we must make it the best it can be, and that means avoiding antisocial behavior that is harmful to others and to ourselves.

    what's there to be frightened of? for sure we are no longer scared. it doesn't count number a unmarried iota to me no matter if an atheist has switched over to Christianity. It doesn't make Christianity any extra genuine. that is their personal own fantasy and has no longer something to do with me. Are you frightened of the particular incontrovertible fact that MANY extra Christians have finally come to their senses and become atheists than atheists have EVER become non secular? i do not in my opinion recognize a unmarried atheist that is ever switched over to Christianity, yet I, and almost all of atheists i recognize, become Christians. My wager is that very nearly each and each atheist on the following will inform you a similar element. Sorry, yet Christians turning out to be atheists outnumber atheists turning out to be Christians by about one thousand to a million. (and that is honestly being very beneficiant.) because you're trying to make the "argument from authority" the following, i presumed i'd only communicate about that fact so that you do not proceed making your self look stupid with this argument.)

    The thought of all those murderous psychopaths being held in check only by their belief that God was watching is pretty frightening. Sometimes it seems it wouldn't take much for them to go on the murder rampage they spend so much time dreaming about - maybe nothing more than a hint that God wants this group of people dead.

    How does a child react when she is finally told that there is no Santa Claus? Does she stop celebrating Christmas?

    If it is somehow proved conclusively that Jesus was just a man and not the son of a god and that all gods are just myths people would still honor the traditions and the legend would live on just like Zeus.

    I do not need a book to tell me the difference between right and wrong. Morals are subjective. I believe that deep down, true christians would do do what the bible said do ,even if it was murder, rather than use their own personal judgement. That scares me
