If you know him as a friend or acquaintance, then you can "friend/follow" him on twitter or facebook or whatever as a friend.

But you should ask yourself if this will bring you closer to him, or just feed your obsession without developing any real interpersonal contact between you.

If he doesn't accept you, then he's probably not that interested in you, and you will know there is no point in obsessing about him further.

You should go for it because I remember when I facebook requested my crush and I thought the same thing but then I realized if he knows you he would probably accept it because whenever someone I know requests me I accept and follow them them back. The funny thing is I came to the realization that I had to change a little too late. After I was kicked out and after I was about to lose the only things that truly mattered to me - her love.
