Movie about a doctor who solves a crime.?
I am looking for a movie that was featured on TCM. It is about a doctor who is investigating the death of a girl working at a hospital (I think) who was presumably made pregnant by a masseur who was dealing and consuming drugs. The masseur's accomplice is a nurse in the same hospital that the doctor is working in, and it turns out in the end that she killed the girl.
The doctor gets run over at some point while he's in the telephone booth trying to tell a police inspector who the murderer is.
Also, there's a love triangle: The doctor, a girl and her boyfriend who is juvenile and a drug addict as well. In the end she stays with the doctor deciding to leave the "clean" addict behind.
Also, I recall that the doctor almost becomes the victim of blackmail as a nosy journalist takes a picture of him making love to a girl.

It has been so many years (back in the early Seventies) that I saw the movie, so I can't be sure.

Dr. Peter Carey (James Coburn) is a pathologist who moves to Boston, where he starts working in a hospital. He soon meets Georgia Hightower (Jennifer O'Neill), with whom he falls in love. Evelyn Randall, daughter of the hospital's Chief Doctor, becomes pregnant and is brought to the emergency department after an illegal abortion. She dies there, and Dr. David Tao (James Hong), a brilliant surgeon and friend of Carey, is arrested and accused of being responsible for the illegal abortion. Carey does not believe his friend to be guilty and starts investigating on his own, despite strong opposition by the police and the doctors around the hospital's chief.

i do no longer understand, yet enable me inform you this: there grew to become right into a real serial killer who based his crimes on the action picture "observed". He gave people deadlines, and had traps on their head. i think he have been given the nickname, "The Collar Bomber".
