Well I guess I was just an Ignorant kid?
in 1997 I worked at REI ( i know, a LONG time ago, but I am going somewhere with this so please read on) and was a good worker and was happy with my job, one day at the end of my shift I was called aside and "let go" it was way past my probationary time and I was a darn good employee if I do say, so myself but there was no reason to have fired me, my question is if I re-applied all these years later at a different REI (i've moved) will the record of my firing still be there? I miss that job and should not have been fired it is my own fault that nothing was said or done at the time of the firing but I really was just a dumb kid that didn't know any better than to just say okay and leave. I appreciate you reading all of this as it was a bit long but there was much to say. Oh and I don't want to take legal action against them, I do miss my job but I am not going to get it back that way. Thank you for reading. ( and for your response)
Is that really true that my records would be purged by now? If so that is great I really need to start working soon I was also concerned about background checks when they run a background check on me ( if that is what they do) then they might see that I had worked there preveously I am still going to put in my application but it does seem that there are many obsticles to be hurtled. This is crazy! I just want to go back to work where I want to go back to work and be the employee that I was.

Your chances of being re-hired depends on why you were let go. Yes, there was a reason you were let go - they wouldn't go through the trouble of training you & having to find & train your replacement just for kicks. Was it something you did or didn't do, or were they laying off staff (like after the holidays or if business was slow)? If you were laid off, I'd say you have a reasonable chance of being taken on again if they have an opening.
Either way, they probably do have you in some records somewhere. If you did something wrong, then don't get your hopes up for being hired back.
If you really feel you were let go unfairly or for "no reason", why would you want to work there again? Why would you want a job you could never feel secure in, wondering if they were going to do that to you again? I'd rather work somewhere that didn't just let people go that easily, who never saw it coming.
I think you could find another job that you would like just as much. You may wish to reconsider.
Good luck : )

If you had been the last hired you are automatically the first fired when layoffs and cutbacks happen. Even if past your 90 days. Its not personal its the way of the world. I don't know what REI is but if they let you go simply b/c they didn't need you any more and you were the last one hired.....I would assume IF they have some record of you working there, its something you can explain in a interview. If you don't work in a right to work state then the company can fire you anytime, for any, or no reason, and there is not a darn thing you can do about it anyway, especially if your a healthy white male 18-50 years of age.
Most company's can, and will rehire if no wrong doing was done in the past, most don't look at anything that happened more than 10 years ago. They care about......"Is this person currently qualified for this job?" .....and they do a background check and a drug test.

Do you really want to work at REI, again?
Isn't it true that all you do is live pay check to pay due to your re-investment in the company?
- rumor is most people work there only to get the employee discount and never have any "extra" money.
I would be truthful Because there is no way to know how their records are handled.
- companies are required to maintain payroll records for 7 years and human resources records.
But with computer systems the way they are... you never know how long records can be maintained.
I work as an HR Technology Consultant. That means I help companies with maintaining their electronic HR records. My dad worked for a company in the late 1960s (yes, 40 some years ago). It's a Fortune 500 household name. I consult with this company now... and I can look in the computer system and see basic employee information about my dad (it's kind of freaky).
- this is a very unusual situation but it's not uncommon for companies to have employee records for 10-15years, if they are using the same software.
No way to know about REI.

at first are you talking approximately your individual or somebody else's? in the event that they're yours take each and each aside & clarify that being ignorant is extremely impolite & disrespectful extraordinarily while this is directed at you as their determine.tell them that there are rules on your place approximately manners and that they are no longer utilising theirs on the 2d & if the placement does not substitute good now there will be effects each and each time they're ignorant till they learn extra desirable manners. If this is people's little ones then enable them to be responsive to you do in comparison to they way they're behaving & you would be telling their father and mom.
