Seniors, do you ever self-censor your intake of radio & TV programs?

What have been your experiences, particularly late at night?

I had a bad nightmare about an elderly man who was a ghost in my kitchen. I spoke up to him, telling he had to leave, but it gave me the creeps & woke me up. The dream came after I'd listened to a program on ghosts on a Coast to Coast radio talk show for about 15 minutes before I turned it off. People had called in with their own creepy ghost encounters. After that, I will only listen when it's an upbeat program & never anything even for a minute on ghosts or scary stories. I also had to get 3 night lights because I moved in here last year & had lots of problems finding the light switch, a total nightmare situation of its own.

Of course, the news at times is even worse.

Update:

I don't have a TV, probably fortunately.

I don't watch T.V.at all and listen only to Radio 2 (here in the U.K.) I have it as background noise whilst doing chores or sitting here at my computer. I really only prick up my ears when the news is on (and even turn that off sometimes) or if a favourite song is being played - especially if it's from the 60s.

If I want any other kind of entertainment I listen to C.Ds or watch an occasional DVD on my computer (but I could count on one hand how many I've watched in the last 12 months.

I think that T.V. can be quite harmful if not monitored or self-censored as you say. Today's youth have been far too influenced and harmed by constant TV. and their seeming inability to find innocent entertainment.

I think that the human brain is easily affected by certain things, maybe in a different way for different people but we should all avoid being influenced by those things which could harm us, even if it is only that we have a bad night's sleep because of a T.V. programme.

Many years ago, here in the U.K. two young boys (aged only about 10 or 11) murdered a 2 years old and it was stated that they had regularly watched some very inappropriate videos. This was considered to probably be what gave them the idea to commit their crime.

I think we can attract positive or negative things to us by our thoughts, one reason I stay away from horror films and super violent films.

I used to work in a Vegas casino and spent all day long around negative, desperate players.

I made sure I did my meditation before work and washed away all negative energy when I came home with a shower, just let all the neg. vibes go down the drain.

On the positive side, most of my c0/ workers felt the same way I did about the neg. vibes so we often shared our thought and talked about difficult customers in the break room, a good way to let off some steam and to know we were not alone in seeing how messed up some people could be and act..

This horrible news about the shootings in Conn. has upset me a little bit. Poor things, their parents and teachers, so sad and such a waste.

I try not to listen too much about details of these tragic events as there is nothing I can do but to say a silent prayer for those in pain.

It is important to keep the mind clean from wild tales and horrors that you can't control, the news media plays into our deep fears and emotions and keeps us in a state of panic.

I haven't seen a TV in over two years and sure don't miss the bombardment of constant advertisements I have a Video Player, a Radio and my computers. From the paranormal perspective, the actual number of these experiences is very low in numbers world wide and rare or unusual events. Dreams are not paranormal events, but can be so real you believe they actually happened. Paranormal is some thing I talk about.

Not me, at this time in life if I wish to watch TV all night and sleep all day that is my 'right.' Of course working part time it depends on what I have scheduled for the next day--although I do schedule all of my appointments in the afternoon.

I intend to enjoy all the moments of my life in whatever I wish and am able to do.

My youngest sister who is around 15 yrs younger than I am is handicapped with spine problems, can't walk freely, has cancer, and a host of other problems.

I've listened to Coast to Coast. Old Art Bell was a couple of bricks short of a full load, and I can't imagine his successors are much more stable. Please don't take that stuff any more seriously than Rush Limburger or that crazy preacher, Pat Robertson, that told Gingrich it was OK to divorce his wife if she got sick. It's all pure fantasy, and should be treated much as you would treat an Edger Allen Poe story.

If they give you the creeps, make sure you don't watch the news. Try Leno or some other milk toast program.

I do watch a half hour of local news, a half hour of national news, and occasionally through the day, will flip on Fox.

Basically, I don't watch blood and guts TV or movies, extra sad drama, just don't need it. I do enjoy TV, silly but funny sitcoms, usually I like the older series best, for instance, the Golden Girls.

Some of the talk shows on radio, and TV, can definitely influence a persons thought process in this day and age, and it all depends on the persons mental state when it happens. It all comes down to how one interprets what he hears and what he is taught.

Absolutely! I will not even have a TV in my house. Stop and think about the garbage they are strewing about in our nation. Do you really need that? I prefer to learn from and entertain myself with books. I listen to the news on trusted radio stations.

Yes, that is the best thing to do. I also don't have T.V. I gave it up a short time ago and it was the best decision I ever made. The things I do now which I never had time for before is just incredible.
