Did you study music & are you a music fanatic?

Just getting a feel for who are the players, and who are the fans, or both like me.

I studied music in school and privately, with a focus in Jazz (Guitar) and Classical studies, Theory, and Performance.

Bonus Question: How many bands are you in? I am in a Pop-Rock band and I play solo Jazz shows.

PS....Please answer my other question in Jazz if you can check it out!

Update:

Thanks guys! Hey J, I can recommend some stuff. From the old school you got to check out Charlie 'Bird' Parker, and Dizzy Gillespie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y75YUSbkIAA

You can get them jamming together like this link but they have some really good solo stuff too.

I really like Dizzy G's album Jambo Caribe. As for new school jazz artists, I really like Medeski Martin & Wood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9otVOpKYLw

I was in a band; my brother taught me bass guitar and drums, I taught myself keyboard. However, I haven't played in the past couple of years. I sold the instruments to help my family out, so I'm really out of practice.

I do listen music quite avidly though, and I'm always open to any kind of recommendation. There's hardly anything I don't like, though I tend to lean more towards anything rock (sub genres included in all of these), bluesy, metal, soft, and recently re-discovering 90s r&b soul.

Source(s): EDIT- I was in just the one garage band, but we disbanded because we couldn't really convey our ideas and discuss them effectively. Creative differences, really. EDIT (2)- Oh Awesome Gan....you're back...I would say I missed you, but I didn't -___- @Awesome Gan (2)- yeah well we kinda figured you'd be back anyways.

You sound like a cat i could dig. I'm 18 and just melting into the cusp of the world of music that is about us. Sure i have that "I just wanna do music attitude" like lots of people my age but like you I wanna be smart about it. I plan on majoring in music and learning all that I can. My heroin days are behind me and all the weed and drugs and fake **** too. I am very recently getting into jazz. Maybe I'm starting off a little bit off the deep end, but Coltrane and Davis are two minds that I'm enamored with at the moment. Sure the big names but I'm slowly getting into the duke ellingtons and the different sects of the genre. IF you would be so kind as to suggest a few for me that would be much appreciated. I am currently not in a band(just left). Im kind of in that self introspective phase, where discipline and patience are beginning to become the real keys to my creativity. Love to hear some small time stuff no insult to you or anything. so links to your stuff would be cool.

Never studied music aside from the lame music electives in high school. I'm a fan though.
