Predictions on upcoming legeslation regarding Firearms?

What are your predictions?

This is what I think will happen:

The President will add all semi-automatic firearms, with a capacity of more than ten rounds, and/or detachable magazines, to the NFA destructive device list.

Transfers of these firearms would be subject to the same rules/laws.

I think he will include handguns, as he has stated that he believes these handguns are responsible for the majority of the inner city violence.

I think he will make this retroactive, meaning you will have to register each one of your firearms that fall under the above description. You will have to pay the $5 tax on each firearm as well.

Since it is not a ban, there will be no question as to it's Constitutionality.

This is what Clinton did with the Street Sweeper shotguns in '91, IIRC.

I'm not sure if he would exclude rimfire firearms.

This would avoid Congress, and let democratic leaders off of the hook. He won't be seeking re-election, so it won't affect his future career.

He could do this tomorrow, with no debate.

Update:

I agree. It would do nothing but to limit our liberties.

People who ask why we need these firearms have never heard of the 'Battle of Athens'.

They don't recognize the responsibility to preserve freedom is the duty of us all.

I have actually been considering the possibility of that EXACT scenario. 1000% ammunition taxes as well. The '94 AWB was proven to be nauseatingly useless, much like its chief advocate, and someone will have the bright idea "Hey! People who go through the NFA process don't seem to commit crimes with their guns! Why don't we make EVERYONE go through the NFA process for ANY gun!"

Welcome to the United States of Australia, the new rape and stabbing capitol of the world.

Once the Conn. shootings become old hat, probably nothing SUBSTANTIAL. Look at what happened to the last bunch of politicos who voted to tighten useless gun legislation, they were all voted out of office.Yes, those in office can make it tough on gunowner and prospective gun buyers in the future, but they also are smart enough to know that their livelihood in their cushy jobs are in great jeopardy.

I predict a ban to be about as likely as the political wing of the NRA suddenly taking on an air of lucidity and dignity.

Unfortunately we need to just take the guns and grind them up. but that isn't going to happen... so nothing is going to happen.
