Was Jim Morrison a crazy sociopath?
I love The Doors and Jim growing up, I read all the books, the poetry, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
But last night I watched a special about the last day of Jim Morrison and they talked to a lot of people that really knew him, and this one guy said he thought Jim was a "sociopath." I can see that crazy look in his eyes sometimes, but I can't tell if that was an act, or the look of drug/alcohol abuse on an otherwise really cool, deep, and talented individual.
The definition of a sociopath is: A person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience.--
Being drunk definitely causes that in some people, so was Jim a sociapath, or just a drunk (or both)?
Great answers so far guys! I agree. Also that is a spot-on point about Histrionic Personality Disorder.
I just read the definition of that and it is so exact I think, so here it is:
Histrionic personality disorder (HPD) is defined by the American Psychiatric Association as a personality disorder characterized by a pattern of excessive emotionality and attention-seeking, including an excessive need for approval and inappropriately seductive behavior, usually beginning in early adulthood. These individuals are lively, dramatic, vivacious, enthusiastic, and flirtatious.--

It goes on into further detail but I think that really gets at the gist of it.

Jim Morrison very well could have been a sociopath.

He was mostly just an alcoholic. He had his lucid moments and he was a smart and talented guy but in the end he just became an out-of-control alcoholic. Sad, really.
He was critical of many aspects of the culture of the time but I don't see that as being 'sociopathic', just wanting change by making social commentary. It's a fine line perhaps but I think that a lot of the counter-culture movements of the time, of which he was a part, as being driven by conscience not by lack of conscience.

I don't think he was ever a sociopath
I think he was just a very complex minded and deeply emotional human being
when you throw drugs and alcohol into a mix like that the consequences cannot be predicted
In morrisons i think he really wanted to push the boundaries through his music but he was a deeply spiritual person and i think he believed he himself needed to act a certain way to accomplish what he set out
I wouldn't necessarily completely disregard sociopath ,i mean if u hear stories about his life and certain events but overall he was just a seriously deep thinker, very well read and complex individual who wanted to express his art through himself and project the image he felt was nesceassry
I'm a massive doors fan too and morrison is a figure who really struck me when i discovered them

no, Jim was not just an alcoholic, there is more to his behaviour, than just alcohol, Jim's biographies, show, he displayed certain behaviours that were independent of his drinking. Jim was, a risk taker, from at least his teens, he also, displayed, a desire to, shock, provoke. all, the behaviours that Jim, became famous, were, an integral part of his personality, before he became a rock star. Its very obvious, if you read his bio. One of his college friends, said if you knew Jim you knew he would not live long, because he was such a risk taker. he also could be a bully, and manipulate.
