screwing into wooden shingles?
I'm attaching a small battery-powered light to the side of my house. I was going to drill pilot holes and then screw it into the wooden shingles on the house. Should I do anything to water-proof the holes?
Thanks.

I would find another place to attach it like the soffit or fascia. Wood shingles are not strong enough to hold. You would have to use a long screw and go into the decking and that could cause problems like roof leaks. The shingles are the last place I would screw too. Not even the last place just don't do it.
