Mince pies? Someone help me!!?

why is the stuff inside a mince pie called mince meat when its in chunks, not minced and its not meat??

    Knights returning from the crusades brought Middle Eastern recipes containing meats, fruits and spices back home with them, these became mince pies the only meat left now is the suet.

    because originally they were made with minced meat but then when times became hard and meat was expensive the actual meat got substituted for the fruit.

    In mediaeval times they were savoury and were made out of minced meat.The sweet ones we have now are a relatively modern development.
