Should Americans have the right to own a ferocious lion?

The last week here in the UK the people have been baffled by the response to gun control being brought in to stop Americans buying and owning Assault Rifles and firearms.

One defender of the misguided allusion that God has guaranteed the right to bear arms opined that school teachers should be armed.

Why not just arm the children!

Others say Guns don't kill people..people kill people.

Well what part then do guns play in the incident if people especially unarmed defenceless children are massacred?

Why do people want to own a weapon designed for assaulting someone with extreme prejudice that causes termination?

So why not allow every American the right to own a ferocious lion instead and remove their guns?

Americans shouldn't be allowed to own anything that can kill, the crime rate in this country is through the roof.

There is a huge gun lobby in USA and it is very very powerful. They quote the right of Americans to bear arms which was definitely needed in frontier days. It is a bit out of date now. They do need a licencing authority with regulations as to how and where their guns are kept and how much ammunition to carry. i think the laws in Uk are a bit panicky after Dunblane but i can not see how anyone can have a right to own a weapon designed for combat rather than sport. An assault rife must be a no no. Revolvers maybe OK The gun lobby appears also to have a dream of overthrowing the US government by force if it does not act in the way they, the gun lobby wish. That puts them on the same level as Afghanistan and Iraq It would not take long for those in UN who loath USA to obtain a resolution to bomb them to hell. Certain sections of American opinion need to have a better knowledge of how the world works

Like guns lions can be very dangerous. Unlike guns lions are sentient creatures who have there own minds and can be dangerous independently.

When someone gets shot it's always due to someone pulling the trigger. When a lion attacks, human intervention is not any kind of a must.

Hence, ownership of lions should be heavily regulated in urban areas as their behaviour is usually unpredictable and beyond human control. The right to own a gun should be based on the likelihood of the owner having predictable and normal human behaviour.

The worst massacre in US school history (quite a bit more serious than the Newtown shooting) was perpetrated by a member of the school's board of governors.

So the NRA wants to put an armed officer into each school. (Have they offered to pay for this, do you think)?

You don't get any dumber than the Naturally Retarded Association. (And - as several other posters have pointed out - you need guns to kill children).

Yes. Why would you want to ban zoos? Just like guns they are legal within regulated limits. That guy illegally stole the guns. If guns were not available he likely would have built home made bombs and killed even more people. The point is that criminals and nutcases are not going to follow the law, the end.

Human beings have the right to break hearts and hurt other people in the name of love, so why not Jon-Jon?

People can pretend to love each other and we just say ... "Oh, you should have known better"

And we say ... "Don't trust anybody" ...

And we say ... "What have you got to lose?" ...

I will tell you what I have got to lose as a human being on this planet and that equals a lot!

Me!!! ... I have got me to lose!

So anybody should have the right to own themselves!

We are just as hurtful as lions because we can and we do hurt each other and that is the truth!!!

If our Constitution guaranteed us the right to own a lion, then we would have the right to own one. It does however give us the right to own weapons. We like it that way. We are not telling you that you have to own a gun, so don't be trying to tell us that we shouldn't. You are in the UK. Our laws are frankly none of your business. Seems to me that I remember a time in your history where your monarchy outlawed weapons for the Scots. It just made it easier for you to kill and subdue them. Our second amendment is not to protect our hunting rights. It is to keep us armed in order to make sure our government never acts like yours did.
