What do you think of Senator Diane Feinnstein's new Gun Control Bill?

Following is a summary of her proposed 2013 legislation:

• Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of 120 specifically-named firearms, Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics; and Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.

• Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test; Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test; and banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans.

• Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.

• Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment; Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes; and Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons.

• Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include: Background check of owner and any transferee,

Type and serial number of the firearm;

Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;

Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.

By moving all semi auto firearms to the NFA data base - I would be shocked if a $200 Tax Stamp was not rrequired for sale or transfer if allowed.

I guess what bothers me the most - when I do a check off of what the bill accomplishes - none of this would have prevented the Sandy Hook shootings.

Today I read about 'another fatal subway pushing' - about a woman who pushed a man in front of a subway train in NYC yesterday. I noticed no outcry from the mayors office - or any other anti violence organization ......... however, I bet if she had used a gun, Mayor Bloomberg, Brady Campaign, etc would have been all over CNN this morning.

"I guess what bothers me the most - when I do a check off of what the bill accomplishes - none of this would have prevented the Sandy Hook shootings. "

THIS is the most telling part of the whole situation -- The bans being proposed DO NOT WORK. Or, at least, they don't DO what the politicians SAY they're supposed to do.

Therefore, either politicians are idiots, or this is a flimsy excuse to disarm us.

And what's really sad is how many people are BUYING this flimsy excuse, hook, line and sinker.

And once those rights are gone, they're gone, and we are at the mercy of the politicians and their hired guns -- literally.

Which is EXACTLY what the founding fathers of this country DIDN'T want to happen.

There's a reason why I call her Swinestein. She is a statist, pure and simple, always has been, always will be; She depends upon her constituency being dependent upon the government, and as long as she keeps the handouts coming, they'll vote for her (hence the term "professional voters").

Dependence = control by the caretaker.

    Gun control isn't about guns.

    It's about control.

And Swinestein is absolutely one of the worst.

Our best bet to defeat this is to write as many congresscritters as we can -- seriously, and remind them of what happened in 1994. Remind them in no uncertain terms that their JOB is on the line. Congress is a cushy position, with a high salary, awesome benefits, and all the trappings of being in power -- the threat of job loss is a powerful weapon against their abuse of power against the will of the people.

We must use it, before it's too late.

    Seriously. Get writing.

    Hello Glacierview!

First, thanks for your advice about the 62s at 300, vs 69s! How was it competing with CPO Bozeman?

Second, I have to ask if her proposed bill bans or restricts the sidearm that either she or Chuck Schumer carry, since they both have CCWs!

From what I read about her proposed bill, semi autos would not necessarily be transferrable, and must be surrendered to the government with the passing of the registered owner ... they can not be sold as part of the estate, or inherited!

I think the "wicked witch of the west" is campaigning to be Queen of the United States. The majority of the arms she is proposing to outright ban, are based purely on looks alone. As if looks can kill! Using her logic, we could extrapolate:

    a) sports cars that look like they can go fast should be prohibited, since the speed limit (in most parts of the country) is 55-65 mph. (Question: How many people die from auto accidents where excessive speed is a contributing factor? Do all people with cars that have the potential to exceed the speed limit speed?)

    b) since men are the most likely gender to engage in the act of rape, and all men are capable of raping, should all men be punished as a rapist, and be castrated?

BTW, has she looked in a mirror lately? How many little kids has she scared while out campaigning, kissing babies and stealing their lolly pops?

If you look at schools, where else do you have such a large, vulnerable victim base? You are a shooter, how well will cinder blocks and bricks deter any bullet? An armed intruder does not HAVE to be IN the school, they can be outside and be a more lethal threat! Most schools are cinderblock and glass, and that glass isn't bullet proof!

I think her bill is a back door approach in trying to balance the fiscal cliff, and balance a deficit that has developed due to major budgetary shortcomings, since the Executive has fail its constitutional obligation to present an annual budget for 4 years. Where is the prosecution for that?

Honestly, I see this as "grandstanding" with a meager and futile attempt to use a major catastrophe to project a hidden aenda. Hopefully, most Americans, and consciencious elected officials, will see this farce for what it is ... and perhaps she will look in the mirror and see it shatter before her eyes, revealing the farce she has projected at the expense of 26 dead on America!

    Good luck and good shooting!

All I can say is that it's a pointless battle with a lot of drama created to make it seem like she's actually doing something while in office. If she thinks that what she's trying to pass is helping her constituents, or Americans in general, she is sadly mistaken. I hear a lot of negativity about Sen. Feinnstein, but it makes me wonder how she was elected. 1) Was it because she's actually providing some good for the people she serves, 2) No one that she represents knows about what she actually does and elect her because "if the system ain't broke, don't fix it", or 3) The candidates running opposite of her are much worse then she is. Regardless of the case, whether or not her purposed ban is passed, I can almost guarentee her current term is her last term.

Guess it is a start but we are doing the same thing we always do after our nation goes through something like this. We are addressing only one problem behind the tragedy as to trying to figure out the full cause behind what would lead someone to this point? The weapon used is not the only problem! We believe that only gun control is the answer? How can we honestly believe that new gun laws and qualifications will prevent another mass shooting in the future? Do we believe that the good and innocent people of this country, who most do own guns, are the problem?

A fully-automatic assault rifle is already illegal. This assault rifle shoots many bullets with one pull of the trigger unlike a semi-automatic assault rifle, like the one used in Newtown that only shoots one bullet with one pull of the trigger, however this weapon holds more bullets than other types of guns.

A fully-automatic is illegal, so how in the world are they still on our streets killing innocent people? Don't criminals know the law? How are criminals and gang members getting their hands on these guns? Why are we not addressing this problem? Why do we also have a problem with illegal drugs killing so many of our children? It is not a mass shooting, but they are still a problem killing many people.

So again I ask, "Why do we think that just because we ban all assault rifles and have new gun control laws and qualifications that we still don't have a problem?"

We can go on and on debating our opinions on what needs to happen, but it really doesn't matter! The good people of this country like you and me are not killing others. What are we going to do about the evil people who have no problem hurting and killing others? There are other things besides guns that can kill people correct? Why do we have to wait for something really bad to happen before we start addressing the true problems our country has?

Guess you can see the strong opinion I have regarding this issue. I lost my 9 year old son to the hands of a criminal who didn't exactly purchase his gun via qualification process. Even I know that there is more to this problem we need to address than just the gun itself.

    you ask what I think,

Is like any politically elected person hell bent on total banning firearms. Her thinking is one reason many of her state suffer from outrageous gun laws.

Would rather see the state of Ca become its own state and open the doors for any anti gun owners. A haven for those who do not understand "Shall not be infringed" and what it means.

Tax stamp is not constitutional, it Infringes on the poors right to own firearms that desire for personal protection and sport.

"Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners..."

All together now: 'The purpose of the Second Amendment is not about hunting.'

Joe Biden crafted the first one in 1994...and you know how effective THAT was...

The overwhelmingly obvious fallacy in this is the lack of control of the mentally damaged ; keep them away from the inanimate tool.

As they say, The Devil is in the details. Those details will not fly. Gun registration of All Semi autos?

She is out her ******* mind if she thinks a bill this drastic will have a prayer. Yes, It would not have stopped Sandy Hook at all.
