My 6 year old male cat isnt urinating, pooping, eating, drinking. whats wrong?

We took our 6 year old male cat to the emergancy vet late yesterday evening. He had to stay overnight to get a urine sample for the vet. They had to give him a shot to get him to pee, which was done around 7 this morning. He hasn't been able to pass anything since then. He was brought home with amoxicillin and a painkiller. They don't seem to be working because he is always squatting but nothing happens. He cries a little bit and and wants some attention but wont stay long.

I am concerned because he isn't urinating or pooping that he may be blocked and could be life threatening. I called the animal hospital and they said to bring him in but I spent $600 alone last night. That is by far ridiculous and I can't afford any more.

What is going on? Is it seriously life threatening? Can it wait til morning? Must I force feed him and give him water by syringe?

Update:

He had gotten an x-ray and they said there were no stones or blockages they could see. However the doctor told me that the medication could cause blockage, which I find inappropriate because you'd think they would stray from that potential problem with his current symptoms.

I want what is best for him but I am not able to afford any more medical attention unless it goes into my current debt. $600 is a lot of money for 14 hours of "care".

How long should I wait until I absolutely need to take him in?

You HAVE to take him to a vet as soon as possible!

How come they allowed you to take him back in this condition? This is so irresponsible!

I really hope you can find good and caring vet.

    Good luck!

Something is not right here. With male cats that are going to the litter box often, yowling in pain, and not producing any urine for extended period it is an absolute emergency. The cat at this point is most likely blocked and needs immediate intervention under sedation, IV fluids, hospitalization and medications. If they sent your cat home with antibiotics and a pain killer then there is probably just an urinary tract infection. If the problem persists then you need to get him rechecked or perhaps find another emergency clinic. If he is truly blocked it is life threatening. X-rays might not show a blockage - crystals are very small. There is no medication that I am aware of that of that would cause a blockage. Please call again for advice or find another emergency clinic and do not wait! Your cats life may depend on it.

For $600 the vet should have given him fluids under the skin. He may have a bladder infection, and they should also have given you some sort of cause. Be careful with the pain killer which may also cause problems. The antibiotic may be the best bet, if he may have an infection which is often a cause of these sort of things. Did they do an X-ray to check for a blockage? Call your own vet in the morning, before they close for the holiday and ask any questions, but of course if it seems urgent call the E-vet.

I am sorry but it is life or death. The vet at my petstore said the syringe would be the best option. There was a dog who had the same case but actully it refused to eat dog food so make homade food or try something human edible set him on the table and it eat it like it is normal. I know it is kinda nasty maybe try chicken also If this is life threating he will probblay last for a year WITHOUT proper treatment so he wont die anytime soon if you treat him correctly. Also we are almost positive it is a urinary tract infection! Hope that helped!

He can have a urainary tract contamination. This will likely intent the cat discomfort and so they are inclined to urinate in areas rather than their litter box. Try taking him to a vet to get him checked out. Additionally he may believe uneasy (might be a couple of up to date transfer, or even rearanging the condominium) and this may reason cats to urinate in unusual areas too. In any even you continue to will want to take your kitty to a vet and be certain he's no longer in suffering. Excellent good fortune! On an extra observe, in case your closet smells a certin approach, for illustration you throw all your dirty garments in ther, he may be urinating in view that of a distinct scent. Are attempting using urinater elimonator after which spaying your closet ground down with frebreeze! Cats are ordinary creatures!

vets will make you take the long route for your pets recovery to squeeze more money out of you, so you might want to take him somewhere else for a second opinion. It could be something as simple as he ate something that is blocking his bowels. this is what happened to my dog and i was charged alot just to take it out her butt, thankfully it made it out the intestines. or the wer talking 1500, and that just wasnt happening. if its something that cost too much for you to pay consider giving it up for adoption. theyll do everything and hopefully find a new home. just take it to a no kill shelter.
