Snowblower, tractor-mounted: 2-stage versus single stage ?

I know the difference, just asking a question about the performance. I've only ever used tractor-mounted snowblowers, all single stage, and they work quite good. The augers spin crazy fast along with the throwing paddles (single stage) and it gathers and whips that snow like no tomorrow. Now, going to a tractor-mounted 2-stage...would there be a real reason to pay the extra for a 2stage, apples to apples as far as tractor motor horsepower?

    Single is better

  • Single-Stage Snow Blowers are used in small areas to remove light snow by clearing and throwing snow in one motion.

Dual-Stage Snow Blowers are used in large areas for clearing heavy snow in 2 stages.

Stage 1 - Forward rotating augers force snow toward the center of the auger housing and into the discharge impeller.

Stage 2 - Discharge impeller rotates, throwing snow out of the discharge chute.

Going with a two stage should throw the snow further and faster. If you're on a tractor you deff want 'FASTER'. As you pitch the snow slower and slower it tends to bogg down your snow blower. But even an old push type 5hp snow thrower is still better than a shovel!
