How can I become an otaku?
I like anime but I feel like I'm not "interesting" for people. I don't feel like an otaku. Like, all the people for example with cute little anime girls as their profile pics on facebook and tumblr, and twitter... Idk who to use, I only know of Miku Hatsune but other than her I don't even know that many cute girl animes like K-ON (haven't watched yet). All I know is that i WANT to be a true otaku so badly.
PS. I collect figures, I have like 20 and 2 Miku figures. I think that counts. And does it help that I love B1A4 and K-pop or is that a different thing? Because really for me "Otaku" includes all kinds of Asian/Japanese culture, but I'm not sure, that's why i asked this because i don't feel like a 100% otaku.
PS. I'm a 16 year old guy
I LOVE manga and anime but I still don't feel like an otaku. And I just don't have the otaku vibe, you know? :'(
I'm not a troll... Oh, and I have to add.. Someone I think is a true otaku is Danny Choo. He is such a good example in my opinion.
@Bumblebeemolestation I think youre right about the "waifu" thing! My friend who's a REAL otaku, he is the biggest otaku ever claims everywhere that "Kyonko is my waifu"
How is otaku an offensive term? If so, then i'm otaku scum. I want to be an otaku because i enjoy the lifestyle, I love Japanese culture soooo much
EDIT: Guys, i'm not so sure about being an otaku anymore. I didn't know it was associated with bad things, I am more of a hardcore fan of anime... Like, I can't live without watching toonami every saturday, but I do other things other than anime, it's just 1 hobby but I like to have many

Just be yourself man.
Watch what you like, collect what you like, act how you like to.
Otaku is just a silly label.
If you really want to be a TRUE otaku though go buy a dakimakura and select a "waifu"
(Pretty sure I am replying to a troll post.)
Edit: you can trust me, I have a cute little girl as my avatar.

In Japan otaku are associated with sick, strange people who murder little girls etc.
I understand you're not getting the otaku vibe right now. That's okay.
Swallow half a can of paint. Next, kidnap an old lady. Drown her in a bath of sand. Then have sex with her body.
If you don't feel the vibe after that, you never will.
Edit- it's too late now. You're an otaku. You're going to start fantasising about high school girls being raped by tentacles. And big long black revolvers.

Not trying to be mean here, but why would you want to label yourself "otaku?" That is a derogatory term. That's like calling yourself a really offensive name and saying it proudly. Are you not happy with a simple "anime fan" label?
And yes, I'm editing my answer to say that I have never missed an episode of Toonami since May 26th. And I'm, as I write, blowing through a box of Pocky and downloading anime on my computer. But I'm still not going to call myself otaku.

1. An otaku is someone that loves manga and anime. ONLY
2. Hatsune Miku *squeals* is NOT an anime character.
3. You don't have to put your profile picture as anime characters. It gets kind of annoying after a while.
Gambatte!

OTAKU huh?? well, how about, if you "EATS" all manga and anime stuff. like go to Anime Expo or doing something like cosplayer...by the way, its not you the one who would proclaim yourself as Otaku but the other Otakus would be. By Eats means, i'm not order you to literally eat that stuff but what i means, is that you life style...Everything around you, just anime and manga stuff(figurine)...yeah, Thats all that i know!!!
btw,
Just REMEMBER!!, what so good be an Otaku? you tell me...peace

You must seek out Master Chen, the Otaku Guru.
It is said that he is the greatest living authority on the art of otakuness, who lives at the summit of Mt. Fuji. But be warned, he will only agree to train you if your heart is pure, and your spirit knows not the concept of defeat. He will assign you a list of tasks, which, if you complete them to his satisfaction, will prove you to be a disciple worthy of his tutelage.
If not, you can bribe him with food. He is partial to sushi.
Once he accepts you as his student, he will expect nothing less than total and blind obedience. Students who have failed him have been known to be tossed off the mountain to plunge to their deaths.
But students who become full-fledged Otaku via Master Chen's wisdom, themselves, are regarded as world-class bakas known as the Bakayaro.

You must watch real classic anime. Evangelion, Berserk, Ghost In The Shell, and Cow Boy Bebop are classics. You must also be a gamer.
