Why is my cream cheese frosting so sour?
So I tried making cream cheese frosting for the first time today to frost my carrot cupcakes.
Here's the recipe I used...
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
I even added a little extra sugar to sweeten the frosting. Is cream cheese frosting always slightly sour? Is there anything else I can add/omit to make it taste less tangy?
If not, what other frosting do you recommend? Something on the sweeter side (but not too much, more neutral)
Thanks, your help is greatly appreciated! :)

cream cheese frosting is supposed to be slightly sour. that's the appeal of it. it's tangy & not overly sweet.
if you don't like it then you can keep adding sugar until you like it. or if you really just don't like it then you can ditch the cream cheese frosting & ice them w/ vanilla buttercream frosting instead.

Have you ever had a cream cheese frosting before that you've liked? It is supposed to be tangy and offset the sweetness of some cakes.
If you want a milder tang, increase the amount of butter and sugar and decrease the amount of cream cheese.
Or maybe cream cheese frosting is not for you - there are lots of other frostings out there. Here are a few other basic ones - http://www.theansweriscake.com/baking-advice/best-...

You're suppose to use 2-4 cups of icing sugar, sometimes even 5 if you want it thick. Cream cheese on its own is tangy.
