I have to disagree with the first two answers. I think their answers are better definitions of an exceptional person, not just a good person.

I would define a good person as someone who lives his life by a very basic moral code that involves the basics, being respectful to others, not being intentionally harmful, working hard in all areas of life (relationships, work, family...)....

People who do things like volunteering for charity organizations and who help other people purely for their benefit, and not his own, is beyond good. That person is amazing. But most people in the world are not volunteering at soup kitchens. Does that mean they are not good people.

Being good is more basic. Just do the basic good things.

Someone that is honest, loyal and true to you, be you just a friend or a loving partner. Someone that allows you to know them in their true personality and character and that you allow them to know you in that way too, when this happens then each accept both the good and the bad about each other, and are truly the best of friends. Its also someone and of course this means working both ways, that one is able to be deadly honest when the other is doing something that will never benefit them, and can take that criticism knowing that its meant with the best of intentions and comes from the heart. Also someone who though having to watch a good friend take the wrong path in life, and having advised them not to, then see's that they go the wrong way because often they are driven via their hearts and not their heads, you accept your friend is making one big mistake, but if they ignore your advise, then you just sit back and make sure they know you are going to be there for them after, to help pick up the pieces. That is what good friends and good people are all about.

Someone who does good things for other people, volunteers at soup kitchens, nice to friends etc. But not to make them feel better about themselves, or because they want to be treated well in return. They should do it because they genuinely want to improve the lives of others.

A person that tells the truth and doesn't go around blaming everyone else when they are wrong.
