What type of pests bite cats?

My Cornish Rex has very sparse, short hair so it's easy to see the skin. Although there is no sign of fleas, there are small "bites" on him which look like flea bites. Are there other pests that bite cats, maybe some type of mites? The cat has never been outside. The dog, a small Chi, has no bites nor fleas.
