How do I teach a cat her new name?
Next Sunday I'm adopting a persian cat from a breeder, and I want to change her name from Ebony to Mocha. How can I teach her her new name?

You don't "adopt" from breeders you BUY from breeders. Adopting is from shelters.
Just use her name whenever you pet her, feed her, play with her. Cats quickly learn their new names.
Do hope you're buying from a TICA, CFA or ACFA registered PKD- cattery and realize that this cat will need DAILY combing all year long? Far too many Persians end up dumped at shelters by people that didn't research the care they need.

Too late. She is stuck forever. No, seriously, cats respond to the tonal quality of the sound of the name, not the actual name. So you pet her and keep saying her name and she will associate the sound with her name.
Then she can decide if she wants to ignore the new name.
Since Persian cats are high maintenance cats, then when you comb her, keep saying her name.

Just keep calling her by Mocha. When she comes to you, then pet her or reward her with some treat. Soon, she'll come around and respond to that name :)

Say her new name (Mocha) in a nice calm tone. she will get used to it and you can treat her wheb she gets it right. avoid calling her by her old name as she will get confused by having two names. she will aventually adjust. hope thid helps :) By the way Mocha is such a nice name!
