What Helps a Dishwasher Clean better with Hard Water? An Acid or a Base?

An acid such as vinegar or Citric Acid.

Or on the other end a Base such as TriSodium Phosphate

Thank you

After a year of letting my daughter take charge of all the dishwashing, I discovered that the entire insides of our stainless steel dishwasher was lined with calcium from our hard well water. I scrapped off a whole mason jar full of the deposits! Then I discovered "Dish Washer Magic" at the Walmart store. It is citrus-based and does a fantastic job of keeping the insides AND your glasses and plates crystal-clear. ( www.summitbrands.com)
