Neighbors beating bushes with brooms everyday, and chanting.?
I have a New neighbor/family. The older lady in the house comes out everyday, with a broom, and starts tapping/sweeping on every bush in the front yard. She will be out there for a good hour or so doing it.
A few days ago it got even stranger over there.
The whole family AND some other people came over and they started walking up and down the driveway Chanting and waving their arms around. A few times I watched as one of them pointed at one of the bushes, and the lot of them ran over and began chanting and waving their arms at the bush.
Pretty crazy if you ask me..
They are Aisan, if that helps you.
What are they doing is the question im asking!?

Beating around the bush, eh? LOL
I had seen & heard that Asians are very neat & tidy and sweep & clean inside & all around their homes as well as the street in front of the house. When I traveled in different parts of Asia, I have seen elderly women sweeping the the streets with those large handmade brooms in front of their residence early in the mornings. Perhaps they were alarmed by spiders or other pests?

gosh I don't kno what the aisans do but I do know there is a religion in America that concerns snakes and active singing and praising and such by the congregation and the snakes crawl all over the people. Could be beating the bushes is to supposedly bring out the snakes.

I don't know why they are doing it, my friend is a Buddhist from Thailand, her friend is also Buddhist and remarked one day that he thought everything including trees and rocks have spirits...so it could be a sort of a ritual to keep the plant spirits on their good side. And I have also heard that research indicates that tapping on a tree will stimulate growth. If they can speak English, why don't you ask them....they may be glad to tell you...doesn't hurt to ask.

Trees & plants should be allowed to be semi-dormant in the winter. Still, there can be worse noises in a neighborhood. If it doesn't last too long, or if they're just doing it to because they're new in the house & yard & want to get acquainted with the trees & bushes, I would just leave it alone.

There is a really good way to find out - ask them. If they don't speak your language and you don't speak theirs then you will just have to remain completely confused.

My parents have neighbors that do that so one day they asked them what they are doing and they said that they are waking up the trees so that they don't die in the winter. I guess they believe that if they don't do that the trees will die due to the winter cold. My question is, who wakes the trees up out in the woods so they don't die?
