What's the best way to answer this question?

on a job interview?

"Tell us about yourself...."

I do well getting an interview, and at an interview right up until this point....then I freeze up and tend to ramble! Ugh! I'm no kid, I'm over 50! People say, just practice...practice what? I wouldn't know where to begin...and that's why I start to ramble. Trying to get it all in in a few minutes time! Soooo frustrating. I have another job interview today, in 3 hours...any advice out there like, quickly? lol

Update:

Thanks so much everyone for the info...this helps me put it all in perspective! I think I know now what to say :) (long as I don't start to ramble again!) You guys are great!

Update 2:

I can't pick a best answer, they were all equally good! Thanks again, peeps!

They don't really want your life story. What really intrigues them is when you talk about your qualities and how you would use them to improve the environment you would be in if you were to get the job. Good Luck (:

I've been asking employers the same question, and what they told me is that they want you to keep it business, and not talk about your personal life at all. They don't want to hear about your birthday or anything. They only want to hear about your skills for their job opening, and your experiences at your previous jobs. So, maybe you could study the job that they are hiring for, and tell them why you would be a good fit for that job, and how your skills fit the job that they are hiring for.

The only problem there is figuring out how to say it. So, what you could do is ask an employer that you know you will not be applying at, and ask him how you should say it.
