Why are some people religious?

Some are religious for the same reason some are not.

If I could venture a potential difference between the two, spirituality is the individual aspect and religion is the social aspect. Both can get dogmatic and dumb, and its not even limited to religion or spirituality, hardcore atheists are not as such because it is scientifically valid, they are dogmatic. As social creatures, we have collective needs as well as individual spiritual needs.

well have you tried? ever since the start of man people have been religious. if someone was raised completely isolated with no human contact they would become religious. man knows there is something else out there and of a higher power of himself. its just a question of which religion is the right one. i would say its the one with the best teachings and reputation to back them up.

People are scared of dying. The very idea of not existing once they die scares them so much to the point where they will believe a book full of myths created by some desert wanderers from the bronze age in some hope that they go somewhere when they die.

They don't really believe it deep down though. If they actually believed that people went to Heaven after that, there wouldn't be funerals, there would probably be celebrations because they know their loved one is finally in Heaven.

Or at least it requires a God for you not to believe in. And they claim it's not, yet they have beliefs that can't be proven. AKA Faith.

There are people out there who are afraid of the unknown. So, they turn to a 'god' for support because living day-to-day and taking responsibility for one's own actions can be too difficult for some.

You use the term "Religious" very loosely. What do you mean exactly?

Because they know that there is something/someone out there bigger than they are. A creator, and one with all the answers.
