I had the same problem, exept I bought a 16gb flashdrive, I would reccomend the hdd, a lot of games need a hdd to play co op and the flashdrive can corrupt, so event though 7t is expensive you can do a lot more. Plus if u want dlc, a hdd is faster, less loadind time and more space to get free trials and stuff. Oh and I bought the hdd in the end, glad I did

Recently bought an 8gb flash drive to download a few Arcade games to, and though I don't regret it I feel like the HDD would have been a better, if more expensive, choice. As far as I can tell, downloadable content is way bigger than I thought it'd be and even if I can fit what few things I need onto a flash drive, there are the issues of speed and security.
In short, just drop a lil loot on the HDD. It's the long-term solution.

You can,t play Halo from a flash drive (multiplayer). I know I've tried.
An HDD is way better. I took my lap top HDD and flash it and put it in my xbox. Works like a charm.

You can get the HDD for pretty cheap now, if you look in the right place. I got an official Microsoft one for about £30, though it was with vouchers/discounts and things. I tried looking for one for my girlfriend as a Christmas present... Found an unofficial one that cost me £36 on Amazon... Exact same space, and works like you'd expect.
For the price you pay... You may as well get the 320.
