Were you ever deprived of food as a form of discipline?
When I was a kid, if we didn't eat our meal, our parents put it in the fridge and gave it to us again (cold) the flwg mealtime. This could go on for days, and we had no other source of food. Was this common 40 years ago (in the USA)? Or were they just nuts?

It's common now, and is not depriving a child of food.
It's abusive if the child actively dislikes the meal, and it's pretty mean to present it cold if it was supposed to be hot, but apart from that, it's basic common sense. Why throw food away if you're just not hungry right now?

Most food is perishable. Once cooked it does not stay good for days on end.
Yes, they were nuts because they could have made you very ill.
Leftovers....three days max. That really depends n the product too.
Also, you didn't like it the first meal, why dish it up again. Most parents try to make kid friendly meals, because they have kids. Making a child eat something that they can't tolerate is at the least disrespectful on their part.

That's not depriving you of food, that's just saving food to eat later. It's called "leftovers", and most people do that to save money. Though you usually warm them up again.

Your parents were nuts. The farthest my parents would go is eat what I've made you or nothing till breakfast/lunch/dinner.
