When I was a kid, if we didn't eat our meal, our parents put it in the fridge and gave it to us again (cold) the flwg mealtime. This could go on for days, and we had no other source of food. Was this common 40 years ago (in the USA)? Or were they just nuts?

Our entire country's revolution was based on the idea of No taxation w/o representation. So why should DC residents pay not only federal, but also district taxes?

Each of my parents married and divorced 3 times. We 4 children have a combined total of 4 divorces and 2 long-term marriages among us. Both of the long-term marriages continue to be disrupted by exes. Does this crap ever end??

Our kids are all in their 40s, and have families of their own. We give them a large cash gift every Xmas plus many thoughtful gifts. None of them even bothered to look at my Amazon wish list (which I told them about) -- instead they got me candy. I've been on a diet all year and don't even especially like candy. How can I get them to think about me too?

Aren't the same folks who're always complaining about high taxes the same ones who want a cop in every school? Who do they think is gonna hire -- train -- outfit -- give medical care and a retirement package to -- these cops, if not them? If you are willing to pay more, give a percent e.g. 3 percent more in state, 1 percent more in local etc.

As Americans, we seem to be stuck in our opinions and beliefs. We can't even listen to opposing ideas, partly b/c those ideas are stated so aggressively. Where can we agree (for example, we could agree that we all love our country) and how can we build understanding from there?
