Why did Jesus have to be betrayed and why was Judas chosen to be the betrayer?
Jesus came to Earth to die for our sins, but before he could be sentenced to death someone had to betray Him.(He didn't need to be pointed out because everyone knew who He was.) If Judas hadn't betrayed Him then one of the others would have had to do it, yet it seems that Judas had been the appointed one because Jesus knew beforehand that it would be Judas.

it all sounds like Walt Disney to me?
a plot, a death, a sacrifice, arisen from the dead, then elevated to heaven, then the anti climax of 3 different persons are actually one person? then the suicide , the magic, the buggery, the detailed sexual incest , the miracles and then last of all !
There is a part two sequel to come out soon?!!!!!
I can roll around laughing all my life if I were to listen to Christians braying like donkeys about there Disney bible ..

jesus had to be betrayed to fulfill the Old Testament prophecies. as for Judas, it couldve been anyone i guess, but Judas was caught up with the love of money. it's possible that he originally had interest in following jesus. after all, a lot of Jesus' followers though he was there to save them from the Romans, not their sins. so chances are, Judas (along with the other disciples) thought Jesus would overthrow the Roman government and he would get to live in luxury or something, but after realizing this was not the case, he parted from the faith and stayed only to steal money from the rest of the group and ultimately hand over Jesus for money, thinking that Jesus would come off the cross.

In "Last Temptation", Jesus sent Judas down to the Romans to turn him in - it was a really intense scene.
But then Kazantzakis got kicked out of the church for writing that.

Jesus may desire to no longer have pronounced it, yet there is a solid expectation through the narrative that he expects to be betrayed. Judas could have taken it upon himself to play the villain of the piece. each and every tale desires one, and an all-valuable , omniscient, omnibenevolent God may desire to no longer locate yet in any different case different to harm a guy's life and acceptance.

Satan also knew because he tried all the apostles to find the weak one. it says he watched over the co ontributions box. They took up a collection because they were not working and needed to eat and pay tax. So people would give them money similar to today.
He stole money out of the box so Satan knew he was not honest. So he used him to betray Jesus.

You have an underlying misconception that, if righted, will eliminate the problem of this question:
The christian bible is a work of fiction. It contradicts itself, modern science, and even the science that existed at the time it was written (as Egyptians had been able to approximate Pi to 3.14 centuries before the bible was written by bronze-age "scholars" who thought it prudent to round down to 3 when writing their "infallible" book)
Isn't it uplifting how almost all of the social, economic, political and ethical problems that face the world today would cease to exist if people would stop believing in flying wizards who listen to your thoughts and answers prayers (sometimes answers prayers. Actually, come to think of it, the pattern of prayer-answering in christianity seems to resemble random chance). Think about it: Europe was wrecked by centuries of conflict, which had at its core, a difference of opinion on whether communion crackers were LITTERALY the body of their christ, or whether the crackers REPRESENT the body of their christ.

to fulfill the OT prophecies is the answer to both of these
Mat 26:53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
Mat 26:54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

Makes for a good bedtime story to have some really nice sounding guy get back-stabbed by his best friend. Classic story of betrayal.

So did Judas go to hell afterward? Hardly seems fair, since he never had any choice in the matter.

There are so many smug atheists, but they have to remember that this country is a Christian country, and its laws are based on christian morality. I doubt they would enjoy living in a 'modern' atheist country. To answer the question, he was fulfilling the prophesies, and keeps mentioning this in the new testament.
