Is it fair that I didn't get the job because I DON'T have a Facebook account?
Hey all, so I am 16 years old and I applied for my first job at a local bookstore (Yay),
I thought it would be great since I volunteered at my school library for years and I had a good recommendation from the librarian.
Throughout the interview, I felt like it was going great! And the interviewer seemed to really like me.
His last question was what my Facebook profile was so he could take a look at it. I told him I don't have one and never have had one.
Right away his expression changed and he asked why.
I explained that I prefer to see my friends face to face, and I like to have privacy and such, etc.
He was still pressing me about why I didn't have an account.
I am positive that is why I didn't get the job. Up until then, we were all smiling and he seemed very impressed with my resume and recommendations. (Straight A student, several awards, hours of volunteer service and library and SPCA, etc.)
Why would he not hire me because of my lack of Facebook?
Please? I'm really worried ... What if I'll never get a job?

Not having a facebook account should not be a reason why you did not get a job. If you don't have the right attitude or qualifications for a job those may be reasons but you are free to associate yourself with whatever you want or don't want as a human right.
You could call the person you interviewed with and ask if there is any particular room for improvement or neccessary skills you should focus on in order to succeed with future interviews. If the interviewer mentions that you didn't get the job because you don't have a facebook account explicitly then that is something that I would consider to be not right and you should contact a school counselor or your local labour board to find out more info.

Whether you have facebook or not is none of his buisness.
It all comes down to first impressions ie dress sense, body language, qualifications etc
You need to stand out and show employers that your the right candidate for the job
Just apply for whatever is going even if it's a s**t job, just be patient and persistant with jobs.

To a future employer, the lack of a Facebook may say you have something to hide. I personally do not think this is fair. It may also be that you are under 18 and employers are more limited when the employee is a minor (fewer hours, etc.)

i do no longer care in the event that they look at what's already public, yet i do no longer think of they might desire to have the skill to get my password and look at each and every thing. They would not have the skill to look at my inner maximum messages that could have something that I purely prefer to communicate approximately with particular people.

All he had to do was search your name on facebook and he could see you dont have one.. Or look through your best friend's friends on facebook if he cared that much. That is ridiculous of him.
