  • Atheist dating an Evangelist Youth Leader?

So, I met a guy <--- Always a great start to a story. (I want to keep this simplistic, so this may seem like point form, and not the Oscar Wilde-esqe prose you may be accustomed to on Answers).

We're both 17. He came from Central America a few years ago. He is an Evangelist Christian, and the Youth Leader of his Church.

I am an Atheist, or, at least a Non-theist, because I don't believe in God and I don't think about it.

We met at a school dance last spring. He watched me dance, then joined me, and we salsa'd. It was wonderful and perhaps a bit provocative (as other students noted) and so it came as a surprise to learn that he is quite religious.

My question here, for all of you lovely religious and non religious folk is: Can two people with such different backgrounds be together? (He has expressed interest and we've been flirting...*swoon*)

And, if he is this religious, may it be that he is playing me, since he knows there will be no future, and is instead looking for some fun?

I just don't know what to think. But, Yahoo Answers has never let me down. Have I given all of the important information? I think so.

  • Training for rugby?

My school just started a girl's rugby team and I signed up for it, though the season doesn't start until February 2015.

I've gone to all the guy's games and love the sport.

I was wondering what I should do to train and prepare for rugby?

I also have a dance background (ballet and hip hop) if that helps in anyway.

I just really want to get myself into the best shape possible for this! Thanks a lot.

  • Taking PreCalculus 12 and Calculus 12 at the same time?

I recently received my timetable and noticed Precalculus 12 and Calculus 12 are both in second semester. I tried to change it but the first semester Precalculus class was full.

Is it unheard of to take these two courses at the same time?

My second semester looks like this:

    Physics 12

    History 12

    Precalculus 12

    Calculus 12

    Philosophy 12

    Thanks a lot in advance!

  • Is this double major worth it?

I want to double major in an environmental science (either ecology/marine biology or water science) with political science (or maybe international relations. Subject to change)

So, Environmental Science/Political Science Double major.

I still have a year of high school left, but I was hoping for some advice.

If I want to possibly become an environmental advocate, possibly pursuing Law School in the distant future, does this double major make sense? Is it worth it? Or am I overworking myself for nothing?

All answers are welcome and appreciated. (Brutally honest are preferred)

  • Stuck between majoring in Biology/Physics or Political Science/Anthropology?

Please be realistic and critical, as I am more of an idealist. I need to be brought back to earth.

I am going into my senior year this fall, and I have yet to confirm my course schedule, primarily because I do not know what I want to do in university. I'm caught between pursuing my interest in physics and/or biology (specifically, ecology) or my love for politics, legal systems, (international relations?) and history.

As of now, my course schedule for next year looks like this:

Social Justice 12, French 12, History 12, Law 12, Physics 12, English 12, Philosophy 12, and a spare/study block. This is the set up to get into a political science program.

In order to study physics, I will need to switch out my French and Philosophy for Biology 12 and Pre Calculus 12. (I really do not want to give up my spare, as I will be doing a lot of work outside of school and will need a break)

Overall, I'm interested in working with NGOs, possibly going to law school/journalism school, and advocating for the environment OR studying quantum mechanics/engineering and somehow applying that to technology to improve the environment.

Please, I need any advice that you are willing to give.

Be as harsh as possible! Thank you.

  • Do I need to have completed prerequisite courses in high school for university electives?

I am hoping to attend Simon Fraser University in a year, and I want to study political science and anthropology. Naturally, I've filled my senior year of high school with history, social justice, and law courses. However, I would also like to take physics as an elective in university, on the side to poli sci.

I did not end up taking a math for senior year, as my schedule was full. The only STEM class I took was Physics 12, because I love it so much.

I was wondering if I needed to fulfill the general requirements for admission to the science faculty (2 sciences 12's and a math 12) in order to take physics as an elective? Or does it not matter, since it isn't my primary field of study?

Thank you very much in advance!

  • Why did I dream about atonement?

I'm a young girl (16) who has been struggling with the idea of religion lately. I sort of believed in God for a while, but it became hard for me and I was leaning over to Atheism, as I think Science is just as magical and amazing as any religion is. (Not to mention much more tangible).

A few nights ago I had a dream, and though I usually do remember my dreams, this one stood out.

In the dream I had been in a bookshop for a little while and I was looking longingly at a shelf, staring at the book Atonement. I know this is an actual book, and has been on my reading list for a while, though to be honest I didn't know the definition of atonement.

Anyway, I became curious and, as anyone who wishes to seek knowledge, I consulted Google.

The book came up as a result, but I had no idea of it's religious meaning -- a reconciliation with God.

Could this be a sign in any sort of way? Or am I looking into this too much? I'd appreciate any help. Thank you!

  • ... Is Jesus telling me to convert to Islam? :/?

Before anyone says anything, please hear me out.

I went to bed last night, and I was feeling a bit lost, spiritually. So I prayed. For the first time in a very long time. It wasn't a proper prayer, but I asked the Lord what to do. And what he wanted me to do. And then I felt a bit silly and went to sleep.

But I had a dream. And the most vivid part of it was where I was walking down the sidewalk, and on the side there was a sign. It was an old-looking sign; like the type that they used to have in front of manors or mansions. And it said "Jesusington loves Islam"

I have no idea what that means. It really could have just been my mind being weird. But I get this strange feeling when I think about it.

I'm a 16 year old Orthodox Christian by the way. What do you guys think?

  • Convert the following into m.k.s.? Help please?

I could do all the questions except the last one, where part of it is cubed.

320 Mg/mm^3 ........... That needs to be converted to kilograms/meters cubed. Could you please explain your process? Thank you so much in advance! I've been trying it for over an hour!

  • I want to be a vegan but eggs are such a staple in my diet?

Hi, so I've been vegetarian for a while. It wasn't that difficult as I never really liked meat anyway. Recently I've been interested in taking the next step and becoming a vegan. I have most of it covered (don't use products tested on animals/made from animals, etc) And I don't consume milk, cheese, yogurt, or any other dairy products ... Except for eggs. Eggs are a real staple in my diet; I have one or two with my oatmeal in the morning and then and other one or two at lunch with something else. They keep me full much longer than anything else and I can't imagine not eating them. Can I have some help please? What can I replace eggs with that has around the same protein and nutrient content? I really want to be a full vegan . Please help me :(

I'm also a 16 year old girl, if that affects anything. (It probably doesn't)

  • Can I be a Christian and still hold Pagan beliefs?

People of any religion are welcome to answer! Atheists are welcome, also :) I just need someone educated on the matter, as I clearly am not.

I believe in God and I believe in Jesus Christ, our Saviour. I am definitely not a supporter of Satan.

But I also believe that there are Spirits (perhaps not the best word for it; maybe "essence" or "aura" is better?) that live in the Air and the Earth. I don't wish to practice Magic or anything of the sort. But am I allowed to celebrate Sabbaths and such? For example, the Gaelic marking of May called the Beltane?

I love Jesus and I love God.

Would it be bad to continue with my Pagan beliefs?

    Thanks a lot.

  • Big Brother is Watching You?

Okay, I might be wrong in this, but I recently saw an advertisement for the show Big Brother, and the woman stated the infamous quote "Big Brother is watching you!" And I thought it a bit strange that they could take that from George Orwell's novel and use it like that?

But what bothers me even more is that in my grade 10 Social Studies class, we were doing current events, and I brought up the deal about the NSA and Edward Snowden, and I made a joke ending it with the the Big Brother quote ... The problem is that nobody understood what I really meant as a reference to 1984, but instead thought I was talking about some silly reality show.

Are they doing this on purpose? Are they trying to hide the real meaning of the quote to trick the masses into thinking its just a reality show gag?

Sorry if I sound absurd ... It's just something I've been thinking about for a while.

Any well thought out opinions will be greatly appreciated!

  • How to find y-intercept from a perpendicular line?

I think my question was poorly phrased .. I'm sorry!

My teacher rushed through things and I missed that part.

    Here is the question:

Write an equation of a line that passes through each point and is perpendicular to each line:

    a) y = 3x + 5, (9,5)

    I only got as far as y = -1/3x

But I don't know how to get the y-intercept, as the answer has to be in y = mx + b form ...

Thank you so much if you could explain how to find the y-intercept! ThankYou ThankYou ThankYou!

  • Is it fair that I didn't get the job because I DON'T have a Facebook account?

Hey all, so I am 16 years old and I applied for my first job at a local bookstore (Yay),

I thought it would be great since I volunteered at my school library for years and I had a good recommendation from the librarian.

Throughout the interview, I felt like it was going great! And the interviewer seemed to really like me.

His last question was what my Facebook profile was so he could take a look at it. I told him I don't have one and never have had one.

Right away his expression changed and he asked why.

I explained that I prefer to see my friends face to face, and I like to have privacy and such, etc.

He was still pressing me about why I didn't have an account.

I am positive that is why I didn't get the job. Up until then, we were all smiling and he seemed very impressed with my resume and recommendations. (Straight A student, several awards, hours of volunteer service and library and SPCA, etc.)

Why would he not hire me because of my lack of Facebook?

Please? I'm really worried ... What if I'll never get a job?

  • How can a 16 year old girl get physically stronger?

    Hey everyone!

So I don't want to go into too much detail, but recently I was kind of/sort of attacked on my way home from school. I stayed a bit late doing volunteer stuff and when I was going home somebody tried to pull me down an alley .... Luckily there were a few guys behind me coming home from the basketball game who scared my attacker away and walked me home .... But now I'm a little paranoid and I always have to walk with someone ...

I was just wondering how a teen girl could get stronger? I know it's probably not the best way to help my situation, but it would definitely make me feel more confident.

It's something I've wanted to do for a while, and I guess it's time, haha.

So, I'm not trying to become a super athlete, but a good level of fitness would be nice ...

I'm pretty average at the moment, a little overweight according to my BMI but I like my body the way it is ... So I don't want to lose all femininity.

Diet? ------------> I've recently gone vegetarian

    Exercise? I'm up for anything

Thanks so much for reading! I really appreciate it!

  • How to prevent wrinkles from a young age?

Hi, so I'm a 15 year old girl, and obviously I don't have to worry about wrinkles right now. However, I want to be nice to my skin as to prevent wrinkles in the future. I also want to have healthy skin. Ha.

So I was wondering what kind of steps I could take to do this.

To let you know, I am very minimal with my makeup ... I only wear a little bit of eyeshadow in the corner of my eyes to brighten them and a little bit of chapstick with lip gloss. I also exfoliate once a week.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • My high school is racist towards caucasians?

I just began 10th grade and I thought it would get better, but it's only getting worse.

My high school is about 80 - 85% East Indian. The rest are minorites like African, Asian, and Caucasian.

It's really frustrating because I am not racist whatsoever! It just seems like being Indian is a club, and I'm being excluded. I would have thought that the other minorities would come together, but Asians only hang out with Asians, and Africans only hang out with Africans.

It's not even just the students, but my school puts on Indian celebrations and plays Indian music in the cafeteria, but when Christmas rolls around, you'll be lucky to find a streamer.

The other white people are not who I'd like to hang out with (they do drugs, smoke, and drink) so I hang out with my friends from elementary school.

I really want to transfer, but my teachers all say that I have guaranteed scholarships because I have a 4.0 GPA, which is rare for my school.

I just want to know how to deal with it ... Thanks for reading this! Ah!

And ... people always tell me "You're really cool ... For a white girl." <------- What does that even mean?
