Is it possible to regain access to what was recorded on a cassette tape that was erased?

I have an old cassette tape that had my grandmother's voice on it, but it was accidentally taped over. As far as I know, there's no way to erase the current audio and got back to the previous, but I decided to ask, just in case.....

    You are correct. Sadly it's gone. If you've other precious recordings break out the little tab on the cassette. It will prevent it from being taped over or erased.
