Windows 8 Windows Defender turned off on new Dell laptop?!?

Below are the steps to turn Windows Defender on in Windows 8.

Simple Steps to Follow for Enabling Windows Defender in Windows 8 :

1- First Type Windows Defender on the Search charm from Start Screen and when the Windows Defender App appears Click on it .

2 - Now Click on the Settings Tab.

3 - Under Settings Check on Turn on real-time protection (recommended) and Click on Save Changes.

If you have that problem, you need to uninstall/remove the trial or installed Antivirus program on you computer. Windows Defender automatically turns off/disables once another Antivirus program in installed

on your computer. You have to complete remove/uninstall the other Antivirus program using its own removal tool which you can find on the internet. Ex: Norton--find and use Norton removal tool.

Once you remove the trial Antivirus or any other Antivirus program put on the computer, you will see that

Windows Defender will enable itself or you may have to bring up Windows Defender and enable it.

I also had the same problem even though I had uninstalled McAfee. I then tried typing in anti-virus and that is when the Windows Defender window popped up which allowed me to turn the application on.

I have the same problem and Dell Inc's answer doesn't work. It goes to the same pop up and you have no options for anything except to close the pop up.
