Why do my ears turn hot and red?

I've always been curious. It mostly happens when I spend a while in the cold.

    Well in the cold, your brain cuts off circulation to your fingertips and ears, because it is trying to account for lungs, heart and itself (brain), so really in the cold, your ears should be turning cold and red.
