Rule changes for 2013?

The World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) will be updating the world-standardized rules this year. What rules would you like to see changed, if any? Be specific, would these be general rules or rules for a specific game?

Update:

I tend to agree. I like the rules the way they are. Are there any clarifications to rules that you would suggest? I will say that i would make one change to the 8-ball rules. I think that in the case of pocketing the cue ball on the break, the opponent should get ball in hand anywhere on the table and not be restricted to behind the headstring.

That's a good question. I wasn't all that familiar with the WPA until I googled it and found this:

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    (an excerpt)

    Member confederations and countries

Map of member countries as of November 2011 (July 2008 data also available)

The WPA members are grouped by six continental/regional confederations, who in turn, consist of members from a country's national federation. The chart and table shows the WPA's members as of November 2011:[1]

As I interpret the organization charter, the group consists of different "governing" bodies of pool/billiards from around the world, so if there are any changes in rules it will be the result of a majority vote from all of the independent organizations. I suspect that the governing body representing the United States is the BCA. (not the BCA pool league) The BCA is comprised of members from the APA, BCA, ACS, etc and each of those organizations/pool leagues have their own set of rules.

Hence with so many "governing" bodies sitting down at the same table there has yet to be a unified set of rules established for the sport. As a side note I think that the inability to establish a unified set of rules is why the sport is not acknowledged by the Olympic Committee. Any rules changes in the upcoming year will be a result of problems that the current set of rules created for the players or the perceived integrity of the WPA.

I concur about the 8 ball rule being changed. A scratch on the break in 9 ball results in ball in hand anywhere on the table for the opponent but that rule does not apply in 8 ball.

Maybe the loser of an official WPA world tournament gets fed to the lions.

That would surely make for some tense matches
