Question about the child seeing his father!?
If me and my partner split up round about the time I'm due to have his child how soon after having my child does the dad have to start having weekends? Plus I will be breast feeding and don't know how long the milk lasts. Thanks

You can't make him. Sounds like you are conniving something sinister.

You really need to try to talk to your partner. However angry you are with him, it will be better if you will be reasonable about access. Your milk will last as long as you are breastfeeding. He should want you to breast feed if he wants the best for his baby - but he may only be interested in getting his own way or hurting you. So if you can get him to agree to compromise it would be easier all round. Why not suggest that he does not have the baby over night until baby is weaned from the breast - which could be up to 2-3 years. However, in return suggest he can visit baby every day and possible sleep over to be with baby on some nights. I don't know how possible this would be for you. An involved father will make parenting much easier and much more enjoyable for you. But it really all depends on how reasonable he is prepared to be. The courts will not consider breastfeeding a good enough excuse to deny overnight access. But if he has to take you to court, it will take months (or longer).
Good luck!

He can actually get shared custody when he gets to court. The courts do not consider breastfeeding a reason to deny the father overnight visitation or custody. Most states have laws regarding this now and others leave it up to the judge but they have no problem letting the father have visitation and overnight pretty much right away. The mother would have to pump so the father can use the bottle. Unless you are married it will still take some time until he has proved paternity in court and petitioned for visitation and custody so it can't be right away in your case. Up until the court order the choice is yours. And nobody knows how long the milk will last but using the pump will prevent it form drying out. The bottles can last up to 3 days in the fridge and even longer on the freezer.

Usually when a mother is breastfeeding, courts will let her do so until the child is 6 months old, giving the father visitation. By then, the father is granted weekends and if the mother is still breastfeeding, she is permitted to pump milk for the child while she is away.
Very court is different, though. This is just the average agreement that courts come up with.

This is something that can be settled by mediation if the two of you can not come up with an agreement. He will have to make allowances until you stop breast feeding. As for how long the milk last, I am not sure what you mean. If you mean how long will your body make breast milk, it will until you stop breast feeding. If you are asking how long it will last if you express it and put into a bottle, a couple of hours without being put in ice box
