Can You Write a Poem About Getting Cats Neutered or Spayed?

Update:

Very high brow, WELIV. Very low brow, Lord Percy, she said with a laugh.

Update 2:

ME, I was not stoned when I read your poem but I thought it very clever. I would drop the line "a few litters saved" to keep the four-line stanza.

Update 3:

Iggy: very socially conscious (and I mean that in a good way).

Texas Heaven: you have such empathy for animals. Any stray is lucky to find your home, St. Dallas of Assisi.

Update 4:

Lapiz: you made me laugh. Yes, the guys seem to relate to having their balls removed. My boys have been flaunting their testicles, and I think if they were gone, they would remain my little kittens forever. (I told you to be a good boy, Norman!)

Right, Gem? Kittens forever, not swishy gay cats (not that there's anything wrong with being gay).

Update 5:

Oakwolf, you are correct. Neutering does not preclude sexuality, particularly if neutered at an older age.

Chorle? Are you stoned? ME was.

Update 6:

Thomas: A touching tale. I think most people would do all they could to save a life, but I KNOW you are one of those. I would have liked to hear more about what happened to Gooey... unless it was sad.

Update 7:

Doe: I've suffered through computer problems and have been brain-dead on poetry. I love the way you compare your narrator to a cat who has lost interest in toms.

Update 8:

Gene: A GQ feline suitor... in his dreams! My best cat ever was beautiful and whip-smart. He had white fur with flame points and blue eyes, and I wanted him to father scores of progeny. But, frankly, my boyfriend and I had to acknowledge he wasn't very good at it. He spent too much time on foreplay. Then, when my neighbor wanted her cat to get pregnant, we left Cosmo and the girl indoors and went out. This goes back to Lapiz's remarks -- that was one furious female cat when we got home, and Cosmo was the wild-eyed epitome of teenage male hormones.

Update 9:

LC: Anyone in particular you'd like to get "fixed?" LOL

Update 10:

DOUBLE STANDARDS: My kittens are now little cats, and the boys romp outside while the girl stays inside. :( How to keep the creeps away?

I had to neuter my amorous Tom,

who'd roam the neighborhood with great aplomb.

    Too many felines resembled him,

and former bright friendships were growing dim.

    So alas,I had him fixed,

no more hunting for in heat tricks.

His walk has changed to a gay sashay,

( I'm not quite sure I like him this way)

So now I'm the owner of a different cat,

who once was this, but now he's that.

Source(s): last cat I had was a blue point Siamese named Houri, found him on the beach. After 3 years he disappeared.

    Adeline

I cannot about that stuff, sorry, but you and I have had numerous discussions about cats, particularly yours, and I applaud you for asking the folks to chime in with poetry about cats with some specificity.

    Once as a young boy,

    Our cat Chingitskuk birthed four

I was Dr. Thomas Bri, sat outside,

Yes, in the country they were outdoor cats

The delivery room was the back porch

Right next to the dryer outlet, giving off heat

The first three came out of her easily, one by one,

Their names were Huey, Dewey and Little Louie

The 4th entered this world like a waterlogged cocoon

Thought she was dead, but I would not give up on her

So I cleaned all the 'goo' off her and kept her warm

Hours went by and I could see that she was alive

My five brothers could not believe all I did to save this little kitty

She lived, and I lived, and I was king of the hill in this sibling rivalry

I named her Gooey, what a ladylike name I was so proud of her

She was the ugly duckling, but to me, the most beautiful

Most of my life, due to unforeseen events, I disliked cats

Only after playing doctor and saving one and claiming victory

The last several years though am a changed man for the better

As Milo and Mia Marie run the show in our household.

    Peace

Edit: Addie: No, story was not sad on Gooey. All four became healthy

kitties, though you could tell Gooey was different....a sort of ragamuffin...

beauty comes in the eye of the beholder, and the saving of this little one

helped me realize the beauty of the heart is more important than the

exterior---not only that, but accentuates the outside, for as I said, Gooey

was a beautiful kitty on the outside. This by the way also applies to

    human beings. lol

From what I recall though, we had to give them all away. That is a good

ending, because Dad would not let us keep the dogs and cats inside

unless it got very cold outside. We did put a heater in the garage though,

so they all had a warm refuge.

Girl where have you been? Have missed you!!

I once was cat who prowled

at times I scratched and meow'd

    if someone had seen

    they would

    have thought me obscene

I needed a Tom cryin out loud.

But now I sit quite serene

and Tom can come when he likes

cause I'll just smile and know all the while

I'm content to take naps and chase mice.

    Lol!

Morning Adeline. I've had that done often in the past to house cats as well as some barn cats, which number over a dozen now, but they know where the food source is so they don't stray far afield. In fact they often bring me, by way of sharing, either what they've caught for a meal, or a litter too large for the momma to care for, leaving one behind with me.

Cats are poly-estrus breeders, and may have 12 cycles of being in heat each year, but more compacted in the warmer months, early spring to early fall, and can birth 5 litters a year, multiplied by as many as 9.

I decided she'd delivered her last litter

worn, frail mother, old before her time

to bear and raise too many young, who

would fend for themselves in any case

leaving her alone to breed again.

I lost my last indoor male during surgery, shoddy practices vet, my little boy died while under anesthesia, so I'm reluctant now to have any cat "Fixed" which is such a horrible misnomer. They aren't being fixed in the process, they are being broken.

I feel the same about putting them through that as I do about euthanasia.

    Imagine world of many cats

    beneath our feet collecting rats,

so many that they hide the sun

    and crawl over just everyone.

We do no justice, cause them stress

allowing them to breed like pests

when with a simple act in time

we make their lot in homes reclined

where pain and peril come no more

    within the home with scratched old floor;

for kittens are a sadness too

abandoned then by me and you.

    ---

Edit - I guess I can write a poem, though technically what I've written above is simply verse. I also know you wouldn't abandon a kitten, but many do and finding a good home for the many can be a trial.

    Pyewacket was not neutered;

    For him, it was Vasectomy.

    A site on my computer

Said this would set his ego free.

    to dream about his future.

    For sixteen hours daily sleep,

    The G.Q. feline suitor.

    I find it interesting

that all assume the cat is male

when female cats are near - routinely neutered

(If I described the mating-process you`d feel ill and horrifiedl

....it`s no ball-game!)...the banal responses are testing

    my patience.

Edit: agree with Dallas on this..yet

I had a cat neutered as her womb was ill

    and she was happier,

    but..I wish.... LOL.

    Today is the day

I was found in the street

    I was only born

Cuz my mom was in heat

    They took me in

    It sure was strange

    a few litters saved

    better than finding

    a home on the range
